Dream Herald - by Lilla

In his work entitled *Sacred clowns* Tony Hillerman writes ~ *.... This business of hozho. The way I understand it ... I’ll use an example. Terrible drought, crops dead, sheep dying. Spring dried out. No water. The Hopi, or the Christian, maybe the Moslem, they pray for rain. The Navajo has the proper ceremony done to restore himself to harmony with the drought. You see what I mean. The system is designed to recognize what’s beyond human power to change, and then to change the human’s attitude to be content with the inevitable.* : The truth is, Dreams Help Us Adjust in exactly the same way . . .

Weather In Dreams ~ Earth & Air

June 2nd 2008 03:30
Weather in General

Overall, to be aware of ‘weather’ as part of your dream environment, is usually about highlighting information regarding your current spiritual and emotional well being. Weather specifically appears to show you that you are aware of the changing external situations and are trying to adjust internally, in direct response to them.

Being aware of weather is also believed to show that you are aware of the past, present and future and your role/place within the linear timeframe of events as part of the greater whole, rather than just an individual living in a vacuum.

EARTH : Symbolises Matters of Practicality.

Earthquakes ~ In dreams are alerting you to deal with an inner insecurity immediately, before it overwhelms you to the point of irrational behaviour. An Earthquake whispers to you that spiritual upheaval is necessary, very often because old opinions and attitudes - even relationships - may be breaking up and giving cause for concern.

According to Gypsy folklore : Earthquakes augur losses, broken ties and bereavements.

To Be Stuck Under the Earth in the Wake of a Quake – means you must become more aware of your unconscious drives, habits and energies, which are contributing to the situation, whether you speak or not.

Ask yourself, what are my intentions here?

Mud ~ Always augurs that we are feeling bogged down, perhaps by not having balanced out practicality and emotion (earth and water) properly?

Mud is a symbol of the ‘stuff’ we are made of and appearing in dreams, it is alerting you to the tremendous potential you have for growth, if handled properly. If the ‘mud’ is out of control (as in a mudslide), you are alerted to your dangerous behaviour patterns which are hindering your progress in life. Spiritually this dream is saying; ‘Go back to basics.’

For European Gypsies’ this symbol was held as one of varying possibilities, depending on how it was viewed in the dream:

To Be Repulsed By Mud – was said to suggest that you were feeling guilty about something perhaps ‘viewing’ something as &#8216irty’ in sexual terms?

To Be Soiled by Mud – was said to mean that you were suffering some sort of undefined depression.

To Be Sinking in Mud, or Quicksand – suggests suppressed feelings, powerlessness and despair, again ‘going back to basics’ and having a real look at your motives for remaining in toxic situations?

Look to the other symbols in this dream for clues as to where you may need to look at your personality and it’s ability to deal with things in a practical manner.

The 2001 Topanga Boulder

Volcano’s ~ are a telling spiritual image of deeply held passion by their unpredictability. Much will depend on what your volcano is doing in the dreamscape, as to its interpretation.

To the Gypsy’s a Volcano represents family quarrels, disturbances and fights no matter what it is up too, well unless it is dormant/extinct in the dream (see below).

Erupting Volcanoes – usually signify that you are not in full control of a situation, or your emotions, and that there may be a need to release in the dream to avoid hurtful release in waking life?

Big Explosion, Little or no Lava – Anger will be prominent and outweigh the reason and pleasure of honest passion.

Loads of Lava, Little Explosion – Augurs you will not second guess feelings in all this, as they will run very deep, alongside your true passion and beliefs.

If the Lava has Cooled – It indicates that recent passions may be about to cool off a little, look for the changes and embrace them, as it may be the bridge needed to move forward.

For a Volcano to Be Dormant/Extinct – it is said that you have either ‘killed off’ your passions, or that a difficult situation is coming to a close as a result of supreme control over your passions. Either way it is the end of a condition that has been annoyingly around for a while.

AIR : Symbolises the Intellect and our Ability to Reason.

Breezes ~ When meaningful, indicate a contended state of mind where love and compassion are reached. Happy times ahead.

The old sayings of someone being like, ‘a warm breeze,’ or a ‘breath of fresh air’ easily explains images of unconditional love and the Spirit as seen in breezes within the dream.

A Stiff Breeze –
indicates a degree of growing abrasiveness within a relationship will start to cause some worry, but can be sorted easily if all parties can continue to ‘see reason.’

The Gypsy’s believe that to dream of a wind (movement of air) in any capacity augurs answers to your questions, which can be measured by the ferocity of the wind as experienced in the dream itself.

If a Strong Wind Blows Your Hat Off – See ‘Hat’[here]

Clouds ~ are sometimes seen as symbols for the majesty of God, when they presage uplifting times ahead. At other times they gather as symbols of doubt and obscurity and warn of people or situations that will overshadow us. Much will depend on their colour and density and the other symbols in the dream (and whether they achieve ‘rain’ or not – see next post for Water).

Dark Clouds – signify threatened misfortune,

Light, Fluffy stuff – indicates mystery and joy.

Generally speaking, when clouds appear we are being shown that we need to look at our ability to bring in the various parts of our personality needed to restore harmony and balance between body, spirit, soul and mind.

Gales, Hurricanes, Typhoons and Cyclones (see also Tornadoes below) ~ Here we are clearly experiences a force of a waking element in our lives which is beyond our control. These catastrophic dreams signify a feeling of being out of our depth, of being ‘swept along by circumstances’ - or someone else’s passion – powerless to resist.

Are you allowing outside circumstances to create problems for you when you should be looking at what you can do to ‘take shelter’ – withdraw from the situation - or battle on to a sanctuary?

Sometimes such ferocity of weather is a sign of our own passions, or passionate beliefs and again experienced as an out of control situation. In which case, you are asked to consider that to be a leader, it is sometimes wiser to allow yourself to be, or ‘carried along by circumstances’ for a time?

Look to the other symbols around this dream to see where the deeper spiritual significance and meanings may lay hidden.

A Strong Gale, as opposed to a Full-on Hurricane – augurs losses in business, plan carefully and read all fine print.

To Hear The Roar of The Hurricane or Gale - as it heads towards you, is said by the Gypsy’s to presage that you will undergo torture and suspense, in an effort to avoid bringing ruin to your affairs.

If the Hurricane Blows Down Your House – Even if you move to far-away places in your waking world, you will still not find relief in domestic affairs, better to look for shelter closer by.

If You Sift the Debris Caused by A Hurricane – it is believed that you will come close to trouble, but manage to avoid it through the change in direction of others around you, especially if you rescue people from the rubble.

To See Dead and Wounded in the Aftermath of A Cyclone or Typhoon – foretells coming sadness and distress in your life caused by the troubles of others.

Sky ~ is a clear representation of the mind and also the unattainable, because no matter the effort, we cannot make the sky tangible, any more than we can define mind completely. When we look to the sky in a dream, we are looking at the infinity of possibility and the need for direct consideration of the order of our intuitive functions (beyond mind/intellect).

A Bright Sky – clearly shows the ‘mood’ of joy.

A Dark Sky – reflects a ‘mood’ of gloominess.... (See clouds above for more information).

To Be Flying In the Sky – can either mean trying to avoid the mundane, or that there is a need to explore a different potential than the one you are currently employing?

Very Blue, Clear Skies – Things are moving along at the right pace for us and you can control internal reactions to external situations easily at this time... we can cruise along with the situation as it is, keeping control of it as we go.

To the Gypsy’s clear skies are clear signs of coming prosperity and good health, and cloudy ones, portend troubles in proportion to the amount of cloud present.

Stormy Skies and Storms~ represent a quickening of pace which will usually result in a personal emotional outburst, usually without reason or logic, but more as a result of feeling our emotions have been ‘battered’ by events.

Often, storms brew in our dreams, if we are in difficulties within a relationship within our waking life. They offer invaluable ‘virtual release’ by ‘clearing the air,’ for example, when an argument in everyday life is not yet appropriate, or possible. Sometimes we use dream storms to ‘practice’ our argument on deeper spiritual levels, for when we do eventually confront the object of disdain.

Spiritually this then offers a symbol for the release of new creative energy, Thunder and Lightening the tools of choice of the storm gods, in dealing with illuminating fears and ousting negative thoughts.

Lightening – denotes unexpected changes, often as a result of an epiphany or revelation, which requires us to knock down the structures we have built in as safeguards in our lives, or at the very least, to re-think how we think about them.

Lightening also marks a discharge of tension and is sometimes viewed as a sign of passion, shining light into an everyday situation which may well need to be blasted in some way, in order for something to ‘happen’ to change the circumstances.

Use your intuition for the right action now as seen through flashes of new personal truths which are making themselves known to you at this time as lightening in your dream-storms. It is a time of enlightenment with the ability to help you bring great changes into your life.

It was once believed that lightening in dreams directly represented the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Rainbows ~ Just like when it first appeared in the Biblical sense, this symbol is universal in that even in dreams, it heralds that better things are yet to come. The pot of gold at the end of one, is so firmly entrenched in the subconsciousness of folklore that it comes across in dreams too.

Usually following rain (see Water), the rainbow is a symbol of the raising of your consciousness and your ability to appreciate the simple things through the spiritual glory now available to you through understanding and learning. In esoteric teachings the rainbow represents the seven steps of awareness necessary for true spirituality.

Thunder, Thunderbolts
- Always symbols of great energy and power, in conjunction with lightening, can bring disaster if not used wisely, but tempered with clear thinking, can be used to direct emotional outburst and create cleansing situations out of the gloom and doom.

Hearing thunder – another warning dream for the potential of an emotional outburst – pending – yet necessary to ‘clear the air.’

Rumblings of Thunder in the Distance – suggest that there is time still to gain control of a potentially difficult situation, before an outburst is required, perhaps avoiding it altogether.

Let your intuition guide you as to the best action to take.

French Folklore once held the belief that Rumbling Thunder in the Distance was a warning of Divine Anger and cautioned the dreamer to become sincere in their actions, immediately, least they be chastised by God.

Tornadoes and Whirly-winds ~ are symbols of violent energy often reflecting the very raw states of vexation and inner turmoil in our waking life, which are currently leaving us feeling spiritually powerless as we enter new stages of being. They are predominantly emotional symbols, yet born of the intellect – usually when emotion has overridden common sense?

Tornadoes warn us to add some will and intelligence to the emotions, before we create worse situations than the ones we are already a part of. They will appear when something elemental within your own nature is making you feel powerless?

Just as a symbol of the tornado shows something that has ‘turned in on itself,’ and yet like our spirit, there is peace and tranquillity at its centre, if you can only remain calm enough to reach it within yourself through your reasoning faculties?

But this can be a terrifying experience in any reality, awake or asleep and is spiritual growth can be scary and this symbol is often seen as a destructive symbol to the dreamer, yet it is one of the most positive symbols we have to prove that tremendous cleansing and growth is taking place within, as we blow out the cobwebs of old psychology and usher in a new way of living.

Gypsy folklore was not so optimistic, feeling that such a dream heralded a period of endless disappointments and perplexity over the miscarriage of studied plans (patience), in favour of swift attainment of fortune (or love)... however, eventual success dependant on the other symbols present in the dream.

Very fascinating Lilla!!

I have not had much weather in my dreams, I must admit! Or, if I did, it was more backgorund enviroment.

I will 'pay more attention' while in my dreams from now on.

By the way, recently I 'woke up' in a dream, that is, I was aware I was dreaming and decided to try and achieve a goal in it!

I have also had a visit...I'll confide in you about that 'dream' some time.

cheers

Hi Fog,

I am just working on "fog" in "Water" *laughs* I didn;t know if I should have put you in Air as Mist, or Water as Mystical? *chuckle* ... my daughter said you were definitely more Water than Air!

/seriously/ 1st Century Oneirocrtica-ologist, Artemidorus Daldianus (or Ephesius), wrote that 'waking-up' within a dream and being 'aware of it,' signifies that we are forcing ourselves into taking notice of a particular action or circumstance. We do this to become aware of various different ideas and concepts we should be looking at, although it still may take us a little time to 'wake-up to them' in the waking world... we are on the way to integrating something new which can "change the ending' of our dream, and usher in a new lifestyle into the waking world.

According to the Maestro, this dreams occurs at the point when we are emerging from a period of mourning and withdrawal.

It sounds like you are healing and getting a grasp on things Fog, Congratulations, I know (like for me) it's a hard slog to get back from anywhere, let alone hell.

I look forward to your dream, when you have time to relay it.

Sweet Dreamzzzz

Hi Dean,

There is an old saying that you cannot expect a different outcome, if you continue to do things in the same way... food for thought?

Nice to 'see' you,

Lilla ...

Hi Lilla

Ah these are symbols that i have dreamed of quite a lot - not recently but in the past. It`s interesting to note their meanings now. Wind has paid regular visits in a recurring dream I used to have - now I can tie it in with some of the other symbols on some of your other pages. Thanks

Hi Ash,

Yes its hard for me to get past the irony too .. weather is transient in dreams too, so true. It is not a real substance of itself, yet adds so much to the other categories and symbols that we dream... for example, when flying in the sky, it can be doing so many things, can;t it?

When at the beach, the weather is there in the background saying so much.

Thrilled this will add dimension to your analysis and self realisation.

Hi Lilla
That flying in the sky dream is pretty common, I believe. I have had it a number of times but the last time it was absolutely fantastic. In the dream I was soaring near a cliff. I was conscious that it was something that happened in my dreams and I was saying to myself 'It's real, it's real this time' When I woke up I still felt like I had actually done it and that euphoric feeling stayed with me for hours. And I actually still believe that I went somewhere in that dream.

Hi again T,

Yes I believe you did as we astral project to meet up with like minded souls from our *soul groups* on such flights.

If you are interested I covered a lot of first hand flying interpretations (again) on my original Dpo You want Dream Interpretated post in October 2006.

Many orblers were flying back then, when orble was more fun and not quite so purile.

Happy flying..
