..and so to sleep, per chance to dream.

Types Of People In Dreams - A - Ch

December 20th 2006 01:19

They come to our dreams....unbidden and sometimes welcome, sometimes feared : strangers, movie stars and evil villans, kings, queens, preists and devils... but what do they all mean and why do certain people re-appear over and over again? What are we trying to tell ourselves by casting certain characters in our nocturnal plays ... what truths are we missing in our visiting companions....

Sometimes they simply apprear as themselves, people we know, at other times we change and disfigure them .. to add clues to their reason for being on our inner stage?

Often we simply put them there becuase of characteristics they posess that we may feel are more important than ourselves... even traits to emulate...

Let's take a look at a few...

Someone from your past - is helping you sort your past hurt, pain, memories.

Adolescents - oneself - focuses on the undeveloped side of our nature, after all non of us came into this life with an already "perfect" sign over our heads...
- opposite sex adolescent - this is about dealing with a suppressed side of our development. Can be about a conflict of freedom.

Ancestors - accessing our roots - questioning our morailty, religious feelings, customs, ways of behaving.

Authority Figures - the first authority figure is the father and it is then that we learn to see authority as kind and helpful or only as exploitative and disciplinarian. Eventually though most authority figures are there because they will ultimately lead us back to ourselves and what is good for us. In dreams authority figures initially have power over us until we develop the power to overcome and develop the power to succeed in life.

Dreams particularly of Police can indicate a kind of social control and a protective element that must be dealt with.

Baby - yours - usually there to highlight vulnerable feelings, especially when starting something new.
others - be aware of anothers ability to be hurt.

Boy - potential for new experiences.
a boy you know - he is reflecting recognised qualities within ourselves. A need to get back in touch with our inner child and re-kindle the passion of creativity.

Boyfriend - present or former - reassing feelings, attachments and sexuality connect to him.
A boyfriend you would not anticipate - a need to develop a greater understanding of the way you relate to men. Try to consider the loving, caring, nuturing side of men more.

Carers - nurses nuns, etc - a need for more compassion and nuturing from ourselves. Sometimes a dream of 'calling' or vocation... for men usually a non-sexual relationship.

Child - (can be one of your own) - Access to our own inner child.. granted. When we can get in touch with this aspect of ourselves we're giving ourselves permission to clarify and attain wholeness.

How about the lover?

Some good old fashioned animus material who wants to trounce the daisies. Always a good dream.

Hahahah, I understand, Lilla.

Then in line with this post, I would say people from the past. Sometimes the dead. Sometimes children, frequently pregnancy, and the ancestors. A nice potpourri.

Good stuff, Lilla. I look forward to your next post as well.

Hi Lilla,

Just a curious question. Probably non related. What if you have a dream, but you can't remember when you wake up? You know it was important, you know you "kind of" met someone in there and was an important event, but you can't remember the details. What does that mean?

And what if you dream of someone that when you wake up you really didn't want it to end? Could be someone you love (spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, family members), or somewhere you love to be. What does that mean then?

By the way, good information on the dreams.

Hey Jessica,

that's what iwas talking about... always interrupted...otherwise, not remembering is said to be a sign of not yet being aware of certain spiritual aspects about yourself... you must remember we are ultimately kind to ourselves and won't rush ourselves into anything that can be harmful...well, when we are asleep anyway...*lol*

Hope you remember and have a great Christmas Jess,
to you and your family...

Hi Lilla,
I am always intrigued by dreams, my mum always says they are just a jumble of our thoughts of the day, but they must be something more.
i have weird ones almost every night so I can work my way through your dictionary!

Great Ash,

I'll post a few more each day as time permits... I think there is a pragmatic purpose of sorting through the millions of images and terabites of data we store each day... sure... but I think thereis something physical and also mystical about our dreams... something that ties this side of death to the other side, as yet unknown... or forgotten...

You're most welcome my friend....

Lovely Lilla,
Yes I agree I have had a lot of dreams that cannot explain how closely they tie in with reality - sometimes things that have not yet happened but do somewhere down the line. The mind is a magical, magical little lump of flesh with many corridors to explore - we should have longer lives to fill the rooms with knowledge.
Good to have you back

I have a recurring dream that I was back in high school. I wonder what that means? Thanks in advance.

Hi Hope,

Dreaming of being back at school is a funny dream to have. I have this dream periodically too...what is happening here is that we are shedding outmoded ideas and concepts about our personalities and trying to integrate new ones. Also when we are learning different ways of dealing with authority, then dreams of school will surface.

Seeing a teacher is interesting too because they were generally the first authority figures outside of the home and often come to us in dreams latrer in life. This is especially true if their belief was very different to the ideals being taught at home... which often results in conflict in later life and why they come to us in dreams. These conflicting emotions have to be sorted out, sooner or later.

Merry Christmas to you Hope,
Hope that helps...

Pets. One dog in particular. Died last December 13th. Dreams of him run wild in my sleeping mind this December. Never the same dream twice - some peaceful, some horrific.

Always interested, Dear Lilla. I do have some dream journals and can pretty accurately detect what a dog means or what a cat means, but I feel there's more significance to the message if the animal is a beloved pet passed on. More specifically, while generic animal definitions can be and often are accurate, I believe that how the animals are appearing, what they're doing, or the variations from one dream to the next may also be extremely significant. With this particular pet, I feel as though he's trying to get a specific message across and I'm just not getting it, so he appears in a new dream in a new way and the cycle repeats. Ultimately, it's just left me frustrated and sad that I'm not getting it, and the dreams are getting very disturbing.

Oh that's no good,

Wendi, if you've got a fix on the meaning of the dog... you need to look around him for the items / objects about in the dream - if none with him directly - then those leading into his visitation, and then again, those following...

cats, combs, bows ribbons, colours, numbers, night/day... the direction he is travelling... up, down, west east... wet, dry or sunny(?) all these things will give you the clues to the reason for his visit and his message... be vigilant next time he comes....

over and out
Lilla...

Well, in last night's dream, the purpose seemed to be ending his suffering, but each attempt caused only more suffering. It was strange. In the dream, he came to me and I was surprised because even in dream I was conscious that he was deceased. Something was terribly wrong with him, though, so I took him to the vet. The vet said very clearly, "Normally, in this type of case, I'd recommend putting the animal down. In this case, he's already dead, so there's nothing we can do."

In the next "clip", I was shooting the dog in the head with a rifle, but he wouldn't die. My son came to me and asked, "What's wrong with Pharaoh? He's bleeding from the ears." I cried and confessed that I'd shot him. (something I'd NEVER do in reality!!!)

In the next clip, I was locking the dog in the trunk of an old car I used to have - a big 76 Ford Granada (a car I haven't had for years, now). His head wouldn't stay down and I kept slamming the truck down on him.

In the next clip, I was trying to close the dog in a wooden box and was trying to drive nails into the lid.

It just seemed like an endless series of attempts to kill him or hide his existence, but it felt like I was trying to help him.

I'd never harm an animal in any way, especially not my Phar-Bear. But in this dream, I felt like he was asking me to put him out of his misery and everything I tried failed and only caused him more pain. Very disturbing. I awoke sick to my stomach with tears in my eyes.

Hi Wendi,

Sorry for long delay, been on holidays...

Disturbing dream alright - killing is such an extreme solution to a problem whichever way you look at it, but here it seems there is anger and frustration that needs to be put down, not the dog... I'm sure his visits are that : visitations : and he's saying 'let go' perhaps... you really did all you could... that little 'something' [guilt?]... that is eating away, needs to be let go...

Are you angry and frustrated about the way he went, that you could have done more, or less or that something was amiss?

Out of time even?

There is something nagging me here - about time something... it's your time to take a step up spiritually... a development... forward movement...(?)

Tell you why I say that ;

... often to start dreaming of a dog that you used to know or own, is a strong significator of the memories associated with that period of life, which hold clues to present behaviour... get a dream dictionary and look up all the symbols around his appearance, like ears, blood [which is life energy in dreams], old cars, trunks, boxes etc etc... you get my meaning... These are holding clues, he's trying to show you when, he's around I think.

Let me know how you go...

Love, light and laughter,
Lilla...
