Stress and Anxiety Dreams
November 5th 2006 07:15
No doubt about it, at the basic level, dreams are here to help us deal with our anxieties, fears and phobias. They are here to help us to relate, to ground us and 'play-back' images that can help us deal with exactly the thing we are having difficulties with and don't want to deal with in our waking lives. We need dreams both awake and asleep....
Whilst most common dreams are related to our psychological state, there is clear evidence to support the fact that physical conditions also affect your dreams. From a woman's menstrual cycle, to periods of illness, to physiological stress.
Food allergies and medications have all been known to trigger strange dreams. Sometimes the body will transmit to the dreamer that it's reaction of a certain drug is bodily stress, which is then related through a re-occurring nightmare. An old favourite was never to eat a pickled Gherkin before bed if you didn't want to have a nightmare... it works!
One thing is clear, to sleep well and pursue flying dreams, lucid dream states and beyond to astral realms, your stomach must not be too full and you must be well hydrated before going to bed. You must guard against overheating too as this can bring on nightmares of suffocation and fires.
In sensitive people, illness is sometimes communicated to us in dreams before the symptoms become apparent. Motor vehicles and Buildings are both common symbols for the body in these circumstances, although they can also apply to the psychological state also.
VITAMIN B12 when eaten at bedtime produces dreams in the most vivid colours. One milligram of B12 before bed will ensure technicolour dreaming! Try it, like other water soluble vitamins B12 is simply excreted from the body, so no dangers of side effects or overdosing.... and you'll probably only want to try it once or twice.
REMEMBER: Keep a dream journal and jot your dreams down when you first awaken. Get a good Dream Dictionary for yourself or get them interpreted by a professional.
Your dreams are always there to help you.

You're overstressed and hurrying too much, check the typos in your blog, but I like what you're doing anyway, you're obviously passionate about it.
Love your ideas

Thanks so very much... Yes, I was in a mad dash when I posted this but had to get the thought out of my head to make way for something else I had going on. It seemed quicker to just type it out than jot it on a notepad. I've re-visited this morning and think I got them all, please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks again,
Lilla...

What do I like about nightmares? Well, they're usually vivid to start with, and that's fascinating. But it's something about the way that nightmares make you feel alive. The way you wake up, and your body is still full of the dreaming. Something like emotional catharsis.

What do you think of Adrian's comment. An unusual dreamscape, surely.

How I love the challenge of you...
You must have missed it, in my post [above] it clearly states that if you want nightmares you should eat a jar of gherkins before retiring, make sure you have no water and plenty of doona's and blankets on - double what you need should do it nicely! . You should be well into suffocation, dying, fires, monsters and blood guts and gore by about midnight, if you retire by ten. Believe me this works, I have tested it out and you can vary the three common denominators to see if the nightmares vary... and they do...
I agree with you about the catharsis of nightmares. I miss them sometimes too. But having got myself to a place of being able to control them, I understand that they are not necessary after a certain stage.
... my challenge to you, sir... is : Next time someone is coming at you in your dream : set up a signal (Like Chakotay in Voyager : Waking Moments : Season 4, Disc 4 Episode 1) ... then take the knife, or gun or whatever is threatening you in your nightmare away from your attacker(s)... Let me know how it goes...
Now I am more curious than ever about your dream and/or nightmare…

Can you come up with something darker than the black square...?
A wonderful ominous challenge....

Black is the darkest I can go! Good one! and the rectangle is the most that I can extend, so I suppose I can come up with something darker. Is size important? We could do a blog on that. We'd probably get some responses too.
I guess that is not an environmental issue although it could be argued it may be a brain issue and something of a puzzle, not having a tapemeasure with me!

A black on black rectangle... very ominous.
Not environmental no, it is a colour to avoid... but as far as nightmares go... wow it's the best colour there is...

I missed the bit about size there.... Hmmm, honestly.....?
No, I don't think size matters at all, I think it is relative to the wall upon which it is to be hung.

Would you like a "features in black" with a link back to you and an addendum- addressing your nightmares
Let me know which one you'd like me to link to.

Part two: Two adorable men approached. I was with another woman, an acquaintance from my past of whom I'm not too fond, but who appeared in the dream as my friend. When one of the men touched me, it provoked a vision of a blond ewoman murdered. I saw her clearly - curly hair, glasses broken beside her, blood dripping from her mouth. I knew the men were her killer, but my friend would not believe. They were magickal men of sorts, able to weave spells over the minds of women, causing the women to give in to the men's sexual desires. One of the men had sex with me. Yet, I managed to escape. I tried to warn my friend, but she'd not listen. They gave her pills and she swallowed them willingly. One blue square pill, one light blue gel capsule, and one white round powdery pill. She swallowed them all. I went for help, but the only "proof" I had to take to authorities or loved ones was a "vision" I had of a woman these men already killed. No one believed me.
The dreams overlapped and criss-crossed one another. Husband trying to kill the cats, the two men trying to kill this woman, and me trying to come to terms with the fact that I'd had a crystal clear psychic impression of a dead woman in an apartment complex.
I was "flipping" between dreams as though I were dreaming two separate dreams at one time.
I can only assume these dreams are stress induced.

Adorable men are most welcome in any dream...*chuckle* .. especially if they can take you away from all this... however, the old girlfriend... well interesting because we are usually friends [in the waking world] are people with whom we resonate on the inside... you know... you know a person by their friends... well obviously one of these adorable men resonated to you at that time you resonated to her... or didn't ... or unresovled issue between you and her and a man?
Blood in dreams is a symbol of the life force and her being murdered may suggest she needs help in a situation in which she is torn between two men ... fantasies can be harmful things when *spells* are involved *nodd nodd* beware... give a ring out of the blue if you can and practice your own psychic protection prayers and meditations. Your friend may not be aware? It's quite possible your current situation with partner is reminiscent of a past time with old girlfriend and partner - hers or yours at that time...then the dream is precognitive to help you remember how things were resolved then... or not resolved and perhaps why you did or did not respect her because of it...?
I also had a visit from another well known celebrity again last night - unexpected as he's dead and it could well have been a visitation, which is vexing... but anyway - he kissed me in such a way... well... my toes are still curled *lol* My only stress was upon waking ... *guffaw*
*sigh*

I spent the past several minutes (felt like etermity) writing out a lengthy and detailed private message to you, but then, embarassed by my own private confessions, deleted it before sending.
I have some things to work through.
Thanks for taking the time and sharing the energy, Lilla. I'm grateful.
Thinking camel shadows.
