Food In Dreams : FRUIT
September 16th 2008 01:24
Fruits ~ mouthwatering dream symbols that reveal the desires we have to see the fruits of our labours, efforts and endeavours. Like Flowers, Fruits are symbolically linked to Life, growth, sensuality. Fruits in particular are linked to reproduction and the ripening of our sexual maturity.
It is said that to dream of eating fruit portends that all legal matters will be settled in your favour.
The Colour of the Fruit is also quite significant.
See Colours In Dreams for added information CLICK HERE)
Unripened Fruit : often represents sexual and emotional immaturity.
Apples : the wish to try to take in new information or knowledge; in the search of a new beginning, or fresh approach, or a temptation to do so that should be followed through.
Apricots : To see them on trees denotes that although the future seems rosy, there is hidden bitterness and sorrow. Should you pick and eat this fruit, then it heralds the arrival of forthcoming tragic influences, all necessary for your growth and development.
To See Others Eating Apricots ~ You surroundings will become unpleasant and disagreeable to your tastes and you will need to apply energy to make accommodation changes.
Bananas : A symbol of male sexuality and fertility. Conventionally, (to Freud- as with most things phallic ..) .. the banana, because of its shape, signified the penis. However, because of its yielding nature, it is now also considered to represent the careful handling of masculine sexuality.
Ancient Folklore from many nationalities, hold the belief that to dream of eating one, denotes misfortune. This may well stem from a Melanesian legend, which states that the Banana was the cause of human mortality.
Cherries : To gather them and not eat them denotes a deceptive female. However, according to the historical Oneiromantic, Artemidorus Daldianus (c120AD), to eat them denotes love, pure and simple.
Dates : Because they are an exotic fruit, when we dream of them, it means we are also becoming aware for the need of the rare and exotic in our lives. Clearly we also need sweetness and nurturing in our lives too; we crave a way to be cared for in a way that is different to the norm.
In Roman times... Dates; because of their luscious taste and spiritual connections, were often used as an aphrodisiac during pre-nuptial activities.
According to Artemidorus Daldianus, a dream of dates denotes either strong and powerful enemies or admirers of the opposite sex.
Elderberries : According to astrologer and Oneiromantic, Robert Cross Smith (1795-1832), the sacred fruit of the Elder, was highly esteemed by the ancient Prussians as symbols of very good fortune, awake or asleep, and you can look out for a change in yours for the better after this dream.
Figs : Again a symbol of sexuality, fertility, masculinity and prosperity. To be eating them is highlighting the need to recognise a need for some type of celebration, which is necessary now to your well being; although equally perhaps that a situation holds more potential than at first thought (towards reaching this stage?).
Sacred to the Romans as symbols of fruitfulness and life, to see figs on a tree and pick them in our dreams, is suggesting that we can now be in touch with a deeper spiritual awareness, than we have previously had conscious knowledge of.
Symbolic of the tree of Knowledge and the beginning of duality, of masculinity and femininity, dreaming of Figs very often denotes the start of a physically active phase of life in adolescence, or the gaining of psychic ability in those already initiated.
To Eat Figs out of Season ~ denotes grief through inappropriate behaviour.
In fact, according to the Gypsy’s, it is said that to dream of eating figs at all, denotes bad fortune, public scandal and shame, particularly if the figs are dry.
Fruit Seller (to dream of one) : denotes a need for you to recover losses rapidly in the near future, try not to indulge in risky speculations.
Gooseberries : Are believed, in folklore, to indicate lots of children and the successful accomplishment of plans. A charmed life through virtuous and noble efforts.
Grapes : Another dream of a need to celebrate. Have you considered that each passing milestone on your journey should be celebrated in some way, no matter how small?
Finished painting a wall or a course of study? Celebrate. Finally finished a long term project/hobby? Celebrate. Finished writing that book, article, poem? Celebrate. Finally confronted someone who had been intimidating you? Celebrate. Life requires celebration when personal challenges are met, even if it is just to shout yourself a extra Moccachinno or a movie ticket from time to time ... not just on birthdays and holidays.
The grape is the fruit most closely associated with Bacchus, or in his Greek form, Dionysus, the god of Joy, happiness and fertility. In fact, in Mythology, grapes remain the food of the Gods. So to dream of grapes shows quite clearly a search/need for fun, laughter and creativity within our physical realationships. Sometimes you must make this happen for yourself and not rely on others to bring it into your life. Sometimes it can require a sacrifice - even if it is to sacrifice sadness for a while - to achieve what we are looking for.
To the Gypsys grapes represent a sign of coming cheerfulness and profit.
Grapes as Wine ~ often represents the need now for a sacrifice because of its affiliation with blood.
Gathering White grapes ~ gains both financial and personal (sometimes as returns in love) bringing you to a point of the ability to progress towards better physical intimacy.
Gathering Black or deep Red Grapes ~ damage/losses, sometimes through the restrictions of inhibitions we cannot seem to overcome.
Treading Grapes ~ is believed in folklore to represent that you will overthrow your enemies and share love with someone whom is very special to you.
To Walk Under Grapevines and Pick Grapes ~ is believed to be such an auspicious sign of coming love and prosperity that a lottery ticket bought at the right time now, has a very good chance of winning some money. A gamble will pay off in love or money, so if you've been admiring someone from afar, now may well be the time to make your feelings known.
Lemons : To see them on the tree is said to indicate a need for you the dreamer to take a look at jealousy and what it means to you in your life right now. Look it up in the dictionary. Focus in it in reflection, contemplation and meditation, until you realise the absurdity of the situation and your part in it.
Mangos : To see or eat a mango in your dream, symbolizes fertility, sexual desires, and lust. Alternatively, I did read once in an obscure dream dictionary that the mango may also be a pun to mean "man go" in reference to a relationship in which you should let go and move on?
You will decide.
Melons: are a sign of recovery if you (or someone close to you) has been unwell (can often be a symbol that appears after childbirth). However, Watermelons are said to indicate continuing illness for a while to come, unless alternative therapies (and second opinions) are sought, or changes made to troubling love affairs.
Olives : Bring news of coming peace and plenty romance to all areas of your life soon.
Oranges : The symbolism around this fruit is obscure and little is available other than some obscure Gypsy folklore in which it is believed that to dream of oranges is a dream of tears and anxiety. You are asked to look very closely at what you are getting into in your waking life, to avoid unnecessary tears in the future?
To the ancient Chinese oranges remain one of the symbols of great lengevity as they bring the gift of the sun within their skin. They are considered auspicious despite the fact that peace and health do not often eventuate until after bitter wars have been fought to reclaim, or defend the existnace of peace in the first place; to this end they have come to be equated with quarrels as well.
Perhaps the best advice here would be to consider when is a good time to walk away from any bad situation, which is robbing you of your balance and health, without much forward momentum towards peace, romance and physical closeness?

Peaches : Again the Chinese symbol for longevity and good fortune; and also the symbol of the Paradise of Osiris. A dream of peaches in any form is said to be a clear indication that the current situation will turn out for the better. There is a season of wealth, pleasure and blissful physical contentment ahead of you. Do not worry.
Pears : Believed by Victorian Europe to be the emblem of the heart, it is said that should this symbol appear in your dream as healthy ripe fruit, you may gain the heart of a new love very soon.
Rotten Pears ~ denote sickness, and loss of love if the overall dream is of a negative nature.
Pineapple : The Gypsys believe that if you dream of pineapples you will soon receive an invitation to a celebration or a wedding.
Plums : green ones bode illness through over work, Are you burning the candle at both ends? You are asked to make some changes to your work, health exercise mix in order to restore some balance to your relationships and need for love in your life, least you loose it.
Ripe Plums ~ good health, happy realtionships through healthy lifestyle choices.
Rotten Plums (on the ground) ~ You are asked to take a very close look at who your friends are at the moment, to avoid disgrace. This symbol is a strong indicator of false friendships.
Dried Plums (prunes) ~ Longevity of realtionships and health.
Pomegranates : Indicate that an influential person is about to enter your life and mentor you towards some form of personal goal or physical achievement. Be on the lookout for someone old, or new entering, or re-entering, your life at this time as they will have the ability to help you overcome hurdles and blockages in your life, where you have lost trust, or faith previously. In this way, the person who will enter your life at this time (will seem in retrospect), to have been heaven sent.
The Pomegranate is the Christian symbol of the resurrection and fertility. With the Golden bells they form part of the symbolic robes of the Israelite high priests. .
Unripe Pomegranates ~ can mean scandals and sickness and your inability to have the maturity to recognise a helpful mentor when you see one, through a need to run with the in crowd. Be vigilant least you miss an opportunity to grow spiritually.
Raspberries : Because they look like little hearts they were christened the berries of Eraspe, or Father Eros. To see them in your dreams indicates a need for you to seek out some sensual pleasure to add variety to your life right now.
Sometimes a good massage can do wonders to restore self esteem and flagging spirits.
Strawberries : Lady luck will be with you for a while to come, time to take a few little risks you’ve been contemplating. Buy a lottery ticket or two, at this time, approach that someone you admire and tell them so.
