Dream Herald - by Lilla

In his work entitled *Sacred clowns* Tony Hillerman writes ~ *.... This business of hozho. The way I understand it ... I’ll use an example. Terrible drought, crops dead, sheep dying. Spring dried out. No water. The Hopi, or the Christian, maybe the Moslem, they pray for rain. The Navajo has the proper ceremony done to restore himself to harmony with the drought. You see what I mean. The system is designed to recognize what’s beyond human power to change, and then to change the human’s attitude to be content with the inevitable.* : The truth is, Dreams Help Us Adjust in exactly the same way . . .

Food in Dreams : General Meanings of Dream Eating

August 27th 2008 04:07

To be eating in your dream is evidence of you trying to attempt to satisfy your needs (emotional, mental, spiritual or sexual) all equating to a spiritual hunger reflected in our dream food symbology. It can also be saying that your hunches about love and affection of another person are accurate. In the waking world, hunger is a basic drive and once met, allows us the comfort to move forward with the more aesthetic pleasures and luxuries of physical life.

So it is in the dream world, where we can fulfil (or alert ourselves) to the basic psychological and spiritual sustenance required in order to move forward to emotional and social security, fertility, and/or physical ecstasy. To dream eat then, indicates that you are heading for bliss, abundance of health and a prosperous future.

Some classical dream interpreters believed that we are what we eat in both worlds, *chuckle* so I guess it follows that we should try to eat the best foods possible in either dimension?

To Become Aware of the Need For Nourishment : links to our relationship with Mother, the Feminine Goddess of Nurturing (this includes our ongoing need for self nurturing. As in the waking world (as children), if our need for nourishment and nurturing was/is not met, we experience rejection and hurt.

In dreams (as adults) the two become interchangeable as we go about our nightly banquets and buffets trying to offer ourselves the nourishment we need to progress in all areas of our mental, spiritual and emotional selves.

See individual food groups in following alphabetical posts to understand the areas where nourishment (and nurturing) are most needed for growth through the symbolic foods presented.

To Not Eat, or Refuse Food : indicates an avoidance of growth and change altogether, which is impossible as life is always in a state of flux. You must learn to ride the waves of destiny and dive into the oceans of change, if you are to avoid suffering. You may be attempting to isolate yourself from others (or be in conflict with others) because of erroneous or negative body image?

See following posts for alphabetical listings of the food being refused to get an idea of the area where positive changes are being highlighted.

Being Eaten :is a warning dream. You are being attacked by your own (or possibly someone elses residue) emotions and fears, or by your internal drives which have become obsessive through bad habit patterns? You must rebalance your self-nurturing mechanisms, move towards self preservation as a priority of life.

Are you being too generous ... perhaps there is a need to change your company?
Meditate on the words Boundaries and what it means to you personally.

Being Eaten By Wild Animals/Cannibals :is highlighting the likelihood of you being consumed by your sexual appetites, or more basic natures (or the lusts of others)?

To Eat Human Flesh (or the Meat of Large Animals) ~ You will recieve the lump sum of money, just whenyou need it. Fear not.

To Actually Be Eating A Meal : signifies a satisfaction of your needs ; wether physical, psychological or spiritual. You currently have available to you in your waking world, all the mechanisms and opportunities (and enough consciousness) to choose self nurture over self destruct. You can now give yourself what you need most by implementing new structure (habits) in your waking life.

To Be Eating With Family / Friends - Accept a last minute invitation on the way to you. The event will be very memorable and you will share the company of many wonderful new lighthearted friends.

To Be Eating Alone ~ Appreciate the efforts of your loved ones.

Eating With Strangers ~ Become more protective of your posessions.

Check the Food Groups in your Dream Meal in the following alphabetical posts, to see what attributes and conditions you need to look for or adjust in your waking life (often under our very noses, just like the dream meal itself).

Gypsy folklore will tell you that to see yourself sharing and eating food in a dream is symbolic of giving and receiving love, the sharing of affection and/or bodies.

NOTE: All symbols of the containment of food (the vessel itself ; cup, cauldron, pot, saucepan, bowl etc) are symbols of nurturing and femininity when seen in dreams.

Food producing animals are also associated with the nurturing aspects of the mother. In fact all suggestions of nourishing of the soul and conferring immortality belong to the nurturing of the Mother Goddess and Mother Earth as evidenced by this symbolism.

I daydream about food more than I dream about it

Hahahaha I hear you Louie...wool gathering my grndmother called it.!

The truth is that there is not much difference in reality between the two (or three) dimensions. You might want to take note of the particular foods you daydream about and look them up anyway, I bet you'll find they have relevance. It's all interconnected to ... You.

Happy Virtual Munching.

I`m with Mis on this one - not sure I have ever had a dream about eating, but man have I had dreams about being really, really thirsty, and no matter how many litres of water I swallow down it never sates my thirst.

INteresting reading though, love the folklore bits interwoven in too

Hi Ash,

Thirst is a sign of unsatisfied inner need. It speaks of being at an emotional low ebb and in need of something to give us a boost. anything that can give that emotional satisfaction - short or long term - is good at this point.

To actually be able to satisfy the thirst indicates that you are capable of stisfying your own desires and know exactly what you need and how to go abotu getting it, and with a little effort can experience life in the best way possible.

Folklore says that when we are thirsty in our dreams , we need to look really carefully at either what we are being denied, or what we are denying ourselves in our waking life, as thirst in dreams is about spiritual knowledge and enlightment, which can often only be gained through physical experinces, and reflection/contemplation ... this alone may well be an unquencheable thirst (of the solitary realiser?)

The gypsys believe that if you quench your thirst with clear water you will sleep well throughout the night. To drink foul or tepid water indicates feelings of disconfort throughout the night.

Maybe you could try some watermelon next time, to see if that helps ?

Hi Mis,

oops, out of sync again, sorry

I am not a big dream eater myself either, although I do like bananas and bread on occassion. Last night I was eyeing off a sweets store on this amazing holiday I was on, touring Europe and England's south coast. Spectacular weather, awesome sights and these amazing museums .. I think I even scored a kiss from someone special, someone I wouldn;t mind getting to know better in the rel world, indeed!

I gave up catching (missing) trains for a while after that, grabbed my bottle of beautiful pink Sangria and (having got my very chunky 1970's reto Elton John boots stuck in the softly padded seats, stayed on the flying fox-styled bus/carraige for the tour (giving up on trying to frantically reach the original destination) ... just amazing. What a magic carpet ride it was, I even visited the Elvis Presley Museum.

It was here that I first noticed the sweets stall and the sherbet fountain package. Yellow and red paper tube, with a licquorice stick sticking out of the paper in the middle at the top - like a roman candle firework. The idea is to dip the licquorice intot he sherbert. mmmm so yummy... I used to get them as a kid in England... (they are not readily availabe here in Oz).

Now I must investigate the meaning of liquorice and sherbet... perheps it was no more than a means to get me to include it on my list as I write it?

mmm sweet dreams indeed!

Hi Lilla
I used to have this dream regularly, but not for a long time: I am at a feast - and it's ALL cakes - and I am stuffing myself; I can't get enough but no matter how much I eat I still feel hungry. I do feel a bit hungry when I wake but that passes.
