In his work entitled *Sacred clowns* Tony Hillerman writes ~ *.... This business of hozho. The way I understand it ... I’ll use an example. Terrible drought, crops dead, sheep dying. Spring dried out. No water. The Hopi, or the Christian, maybe the Moslem, they pray for rain. The Navajo has the proper ceremony done to restore himself to harmony with the drought. You see what I mean. The system is designed to recognize what’s beyond human power to change, and then to change the human’s attitude to be content with the inevitable.* : The truth is, Dreams Help Us Adjust in exactly the same way . . .

Food In Dreams : Bread to Fish

September 8th 2008 02:04
Good Bread ~ A positive symbol of looking through past experiences to ascertain your current basic needs. Favourable outcomes follow if the bread is of good quality and you have easy access to it, or manage to secure access to it after some travail.

In A Womans Dream : to be eating bread is said by the Gypsys to be a sign that she will be (or is) afflicted by stubborn children. They believe that much heartache and labour will be spent in thankless days because of them, should bread be on a womans dream menu.

To Be Breaking Bread : (see sharing food / meal in coming posts) ... and, add that your confidence will increase offering you assured competence and success throughout life, certainly for the current project, or endeavour.

A Crust of Bread : such a dream is highlighting strong feelings of impotency, which stems (in this case), from the inability to take responsibility. If you look at the word it merely means the ability to respond. Here, it obviously requires that we re~think our roles and the amount of our workload, and identify possible areas of carelessness in our duties.

To See Soiled or Impure Bread : suggests that you will not be able to ascertain what it is you need most at this time, through continued confusion. Want and misery are often caused by our ability to see an oncoming problem/drama/situation. Confusion is often casued by our very inability to let go of illusions and habitual thinking patterns. When dream-bread is impure we are alerting ourselves to the fact that we need to analyse the obstructions in our thinking patterns which cause us to stay stuck.

As for making a decision when we are confused? Perhaps the best advice is: when in doubt, leave it out... at least until things become clearer.

Butter ~ To be eating bright Golden Butter in your dream is a symbol of good health. It suggests that some efforts made to eat, exercise and stay fit in the waking world, will bring you possessions, wealth and knowledge that you will use to amass great fortune.

Rancid Butter : is highlighting that you persist. It is a symbol that says; competency will be acquired through struggles of manual labour.

Selling Butter : Gypsy Folklore (Spain), says that to dream you do so, indicates small gains in the waking world.

Cakes ~ represent our sensual pleasures in our waking life and our current need for them. Make time for some small indulgences (in and out of the bedroom) in order to treat yourself for all your hard work.

NOTE: To be Baking cakes in dreams is not as good an omen as eating them. The former is highlighting a continuing (unfulfilled) need : whilst the latter is showing the way to fulfil that need.

(Pan) Cakes (or Batter) : suggest that your affections are well placed and a home will be yours all is well, relax, don;t let the worries of others trouble you.

Small Sweet Cakes : Those in love will prosper through good communication. Joint enterprises with loved ones will be enterprising and can be entered into with assurance.

Pound Cake : is a less personal cake and denotes that you get great pleasure from business, or society more than a small tete-a-tete.

Wedding Cake : According to Gypsy Folklore this is the only Bad luck cake a woman can dream of, they dont specify why? Otherwise it represents lacklustre and the need for some more celebration in your life.

Cheese ~ is highlighting your need to analyse why you suffer great disappointment and sorrow. A negative symbol at the very least, cheese is saying that you need to make some drastic changes if you are to find happiness.

Chestnuts ~ Teutonic folklore claims that to dream of eating chestnuts foretells sorrow for a time, followed by eventual happiness. It is said that if this symbol occurs in a womans dream, she will eventually have a well-to-do lover and find comparative plenty.

Chocolate ~signifies that you are able to manifest all that you need to provide for those dependant on you, but must be mindful of making time to nourish yourself with adequate relaxation, sleep and playtimes.

Cornucopia ~ To dream of one, from which spills all manner of good foods is a clear symbol of abundance, happiness and coming wealth (often through new opportunities, or offers).

See individual meanings for Fruit in next post)

Cream ~ Again an omen of good fortune, this time through business, or good crops (to the farmer) - if the cream is served to you in the dream - as it comes about through your ability to foster happy family relations.

Drinking Cream : The Gypsys believe that this is a happy omen for lovers, as they will soon find one another.

Custard ~ traditionally it was said to be a symbol of unexpected visitors for the married woman, be prepared. Otherwise, it heralds the arrival of a stranger who will become a strong and warm friend, offering much support.

Sickening Sweet or Insipid Tasting Custard : Was said by the Gypsys to indicate bad fortune through a reckless friend, and sorrow will intervene where you expected a pleasant experience.

Dinner ~
To be eating it alone is alerting you to the fact that you are the type of person who likes to stop and reflect on the necessities of life.

To be Having Dinner with One Significant Other : Suggests that there is a deep need for open communication with that person.

If Person(s) Known to You : a quarrel or rupture is immenent unless some negotiations are not entered into immediately. You must practice flexibility of thinking now.

If Person(s) Unknown : then that part of yourself has been abandoned and needs to be re-integrated, quickly, least misfortune find you.

Drunk (Intoxicated) ~ To be so in your dream indicates that your are abandoning yourself to irrational forces. Perhaps an event has shaken your trust in a benevolent universe?

This dream also shows a strong need to be free from responsibility and from having continual inhibitions through restricting forces around you. There is a strong need here to re-connect with a part of yourself which can tolerate inappropriate behaviour with equanimity and non-judgement, even your own! especially when it comes to making mistakes in order to grow and learn.

Spiritually it is wise to reflect on the saying that true physical ecstasy can only be achieved after our inhibitions have been shed. There are three physical ways to achieve this state: (1) by getting drunk, (2) diligent self analysis, or (3) just simply by waiting for the right timing .. you will know when.

Eggs ~
are all about our unrealised potential. Dreaming of them symbolises the possibilities of things yet to come. So such a dream is indicating that we are not yet fully conscious of our natural abilities. We have not yet realised our inner potential and the power to be perfect in our own mould/image.

Universally considered a good symbol of change, eating eggs shows the need to take in certain aspects of newness before we can fully explore a different way of life.

Broken Eggs :
are said to predict changes through quarrels and lawsuits;

Fresh eggs : Changes through good news.

Easter Eggs : remain a Pagan symbol of renewal and in dreams often takes us back to childhood feelings of promise and wonder. In Spring, Hope Springs eternal and as such this dream is often one of trying to alert us to the passage of time and the need for change; Easter perhaps symbolic that a great deal of new potential now available on a mental level, which needs releasing.

Fish ~ represents not only the emotional side of our nature, but temporal and spiritual power too. Basically, our ability to be wise without being strategic; here eating it calls your attention to your need to simply respond instinctively to what is going on, without needing to analyse it.

Jung called it the Collective consciousness - that part of life everyone shares, the common experience, awareness and knowledge which we all have, now becoming available to you.

To See Decayed Fish : Blessings are coming, but they will all be disguised in misfortune. Learn to recognise the silver lining. Be like Michealangelo and look for the perfectionwithin the unhewn marble chunks life offers from time to time.

Does constantly dreaming of chocolate while technically still awake count?

Great post, Lilla.

Hahaha Michaelie,

Hmmm technically a tricky question. I guess it depends on when you crave it most (when awake). Is it at a time when you really feel low, or lonely, or in need for more nuturing activities for yourself .. like time off work perhaps, or away from someone or something else that is demanding too much of our energy?

It is a strange thing when the 'ghosts of hunger' attack us (when we are not hungry)... stranger still their modern proference to use chocolate as their vehicle?

If only I could resist it myself

Thanks for the compliment.

Lilla ...
