Dreaming of Death
July 4th 2007 09:03
Traditionally dreams of death were said to be omens of a birth and of course, premonitions of death itself. However, over the years superstition changed and dreams of death (as with the death card in the tarot deck itself) are now generally understood to be recognised as augurs of great change and transformation.
Of course, dreams of dead people, can themselves, be visitations and you'll know the difference if and when you have one... it is unmistakable that it is more than a dream.
To dream of dead people in a general way, and not recognise them, points to unresolved anger or guilt issues that you may still hold towards someone you have lost touch with. An example of this would be if you never dealt with the school playground bully as a kid and have re-occurring dreams of unknown and semi-familiar dead people here and there.
Watch for signs of the same sort of situations re-occuring in your present life and know it is there, because you must confront these issues within yourself. The same scenario will keep on emerging in your life until you do deal with it, no matter how many jobs or partners you have...and dreams of dead people and death may presage these situations.
Death itself experienced in your dream, often indicates a period of calamity ahead for this very reason. You will be tested.
On an intellectual level it can represent potentials we are only now recognising within ourselves, that we may have missed and not fully recognised – until now. Following dreams of death, it is wise to stay sensitive to your abilities and opportunities to resurrect these talents.
With all dreams of death, you need to know that a change of awareness is taking place and you may well be going through some “rite of passage’ : puberty, maturity, pregnancy, middle age, menopause, and old age itself.
To dream of your own death is to be exploring your own feelings about death, the retreat from the challenge of life, or a split between mind and body.
Dreams of your own death often mark the transformation from lower chakra awareness of the gross physical (base chakra : red, Sacral, sexual : orange) to the more emotional chakra’s (Abdomen : yellow to Heart : green) through to the spiritual (throat : blue, Third eye : indigo/silver and crown : Violet). Take note of where the fatal injury occurs and know that it is this area that is growing, shifting, transforming.
Skeletons
Skeletons suggest the ‘bare bones’ of something, usually a concept or idea. But they also help us psychologically become aware of our feelings about death itself.
Skeleton in the Cupboard? – signifies a past action or shame we have been hiding from ourselves, that we may feel ready to deal with.
Dancing Skeleton – we need to become more aware of the life we are living and image we are projecting.
Digging up skeletons – Time to resurrect a part of ourselves we have buried up till now.

Wow, very enlightening.
What does being hunted by shadow beings, big cats and dogs mean? In my sleep they used to stalk me until I got angry and started hunting them in a surreal black and white mountain filled world; where I can fly by simply willing it.

You’ll find more on Cat’s and Dogs <<HERE>> - traditionally they can represent male and female sides to your nature as well as the other explanations you’ll find there. YOu may need to look through the A-Z Animal posts to find the Big Cats if you dream them.
As for stalking shadows, well they are very significant and may require it’s own post (eventually), suffice to say that everyone has their own shadow and sees shadows they barely recognise. Meeting a shadow is painful, as it is the chock of ourselves or others at their worst. Scary. But when we can meet it with humility and no fear, we are accepting ourselves, and from that acceptance learn to see the rest of reality honestly.
This is the beginning of a greater understanding of others and true compassion with our fellow man/womankind.
Once faced and defeated, our shadows bring the gifts of enabling us to resurrect those normal instincts, appropriate reactions and creative abilities that we have consciously suppressed and buried along with the malicious and destructive side of our personality.
This vital symbol’s energy, when harnessed becomes a force for forward movement rather than a dangerous enemy…there is much more about the shadow that is important, but I will do a whole post on it.
Flying has been covered in several dream interpretations (Homer and Jessica in particular) <<HERE>>Raven, and I hope you find the information interesting. Just give me more details if it's not and I'll interpret them.
Black and White - look at colours <<here>>
The mountain in your dream is a symbol for an obstacle that must be overcome…again the black and white suggest a separation of two opposing sides to something. Climbing mountains is good, because it means you are willing to face obstacles and challenge yourself to catch these shadows of your personality.
Happy Hunting!

I've only dreamt of death once. I was shot down in Toyworld. Haha. I have also heard that if you die in your dream, you might actually die in real life. Well, obviously, that's not the absolute case.
Dreaming of dead people is one of the most uncomfortable dreams I've had.
I have not yet dreamt of skeletons.

Guns are pretty interesting in dreams too. They have strong masculine and sexual connotations.
If it's a woman shooting you down, then you are aware of the masculine aggresive side of her nature.
To be shot (in general) means you are dealing with your views on sexuality.
Toys represent the creative side of ourselves, the more playful innocent part.
Because of your age (happy birthday in advance btw xx) I would say it's the 'rite of passage-type' dreams of death you're experiencing.
All good fun, eh?
Hope you have a great birthday!

Flashes of memories
I keep saying how much I love your dream posts... I feel almost insincere now saying it! However, I`m sure you know I am not.
I often dream of my grandmother and my aunt who have both passed away. Most of the time I try to talk to them and they do not reply or they will be in my dreams and not say anything.
I was just wondering, in this situation, if it had to do with something about what they represent, something of their personality as opposed to a specific message they carry? (does that make sense?)
I have re-read your 'visitations' post - even if they do not say anything and you remember their presence is that a visitation or just something of their personality you are being warned/reminded of?

ps did you see John Edward will be in Sydney in Nov?

What they are both doing is important if they are not talking.
I can't really explain it as you must experiement a bit to tell the difference. What I can say is that a visitation is 'different' to seeing someone in a dream.
visitations are more lucid and generally detatched from an internal emotional response, ie., the company is like it is real and enjoyable, not loaded iwth symbols and emotional vibes.
Sometimes you'll twig to the difference days later when what they were doing or saying happens in real life and you have that kind of 'De Ja Vous-ish-type' of feeling... maybe even flashbacks to certain dreams themselves?
THis is very personal and you really have to work towards differentiation, yourself, through keeping a journal and perhaps putting the 'deams' you think may be visitations down in another colour?
Dreams journals (as in all journals) only work best when they are looked back on and the 'pattern' emerges and is recognised : then decoded.
Good Luck with it. I know you enjoy this blog and it gives me GREAT pleasure to know that it does. Thanks for the feedback, not insincere at all.

Every Wed night after the 'house' 'medium' double, Ive been having the RAUNCHIEST dreams about Hugh Laurie. Theyve been so much fun I even watched some old 'blackadder' episodes trying to bring them on - no luck, seems I need the old and sexy house version rather than the happy go lucky prince version. I should also mention that every night Im having a very vivid dream, its just Wed night I always get this one.
So last night I had everything done before house, sipped a brandy, took a mercyndol for my shoulder, and prepared for my Wed night tickle.
Instead I had a dream I was captured as a slave - I remembered being on a boat just after my capture, mind aflame with escape, but that was past tense. Present tense we were arrived at our destination, a massive, monumental castle. It was old, mouldy, drafty, parts of it disintegrated by age. 'The masters' were upstairs drinking and feasting, and Id been sent downstairs with a message. The castle and the dress of the 'masters' was very viking european, yet all the slaves or 'servents' (who were paid, unlike us) were dressed in short egyptian robes, including sandals and headbands. But not white and pristine, grey and old and filthy. I went downstairs to see a secretary, she looked like one too, behind a stone desk with a quilll, uniform slightly cleaner than mine. She told me that my 'master' would have to come down. I said he wouldnt - I was so tired, I couldnt believe she was arguing with me, this prissy servant who got paid arguing with me, a slave, with no power. I remember screaming at her - "But you dont know what they'll do to me if I return without the message!" And I remember the complete terror that the thought of punishment invoked. I couldnt think of details, merely terror that it should happen again. She merely shrugged and picked up her quill. She didnt care. She wouldnt get punished. I remember looking at the open door nearby, thinking how I could escape, make my way in the mountainous wilderness, tears running down my grimy face. Somehow, my spirit was broken. The rage was still there, the strength was still there, yet somehow they had managed to kill the motivation to use it. My fear of punishment was greater than my urge to flee. I was so tired - I went back upstairs, ever so slowly, dragging my feet, where the room was full of the 'masters' great big men wearing fur edged capes, and my two masters in green and red robes. Upon telling them that the secretary would not give me the message, and seeing the looks on their faces, I realized it was all a game, theyd set me up and now my punishment was going to be entertainment for the whole lot of them. One of them grabbed me by the back of the neck as I started to scream, and the other pulled out a broad leather strap - I swear, it was a girth strap from a saddle - and they all started to laugh when the alarm went off. Saved by the bell?
I dont expect dreams of this intensity AT ALL when Ive had a sedative! It was not what I was expecting....For sure! And the first dream Ive ever had of this particular nature. Always Ive been able to run, fight, something, use my skills. The ultimate feeling of this dream was terror and being powerless, despite still having the motivation to end it. Any ideas Lilla love?

Absolute apologies for the delay in getting back to you on this one, but I needed to set aside a significant chunk of time for it, and today...now [whilst I have three hours of Henna soaking into my hair] … is it!
Ha ha ha …Crusty Hugh Laurie, oh be still my beating heart! I have raunchy daydreams about this one… I locked in, in the first episode of House and haven’t left him since. *chuckle* Sarcastic, cynical, brilliant and vulnerable… and actually astrologically compatible … is there a better aphro-dizzy-ak?
~ Sounds familiar?
~ Because I know you and the comment is clearly marked as “past tense,’ Kleo, what I believe you had here is a visitation of a past life experience… leading to this life…on the boat… which is a symbol for journeys over emotions…depicting clearly how we deal with our emotions.
Boats are about how we navigate our way through our emotions and whether or not we are in control of them or not. As a slave, you obviously feel you are not, although know you can escape this “clutch” to be so. I feel you did that through literal death in that past life, which is why you didn't take the route here in this dream... and why it 'skips' a beat. This past life experience has left you in this nightmare ~ scared to navigate this life ~ in your full power ~ until now.
Now you arrive in this life and present circumstances as depicted by the Castle (the imagery still sacred to the past life experience).... Read <<here>> about Castles... (..defended space and the great Mother, the feminine)…. Here you acknowledge your soul age of wisdom in the age of the castle, around you, and that you are incarnate again, as female.
Again you are not a master, but a ‘messenger,’ Vikings were from the north and that is where you lived your past life, I have no doubts as my every intuition sees the Nordic in your every movement… and of course, most of us were Egyptian at some stage… (You must go and have a past live session with someone Kleo, it will reveal so much to you ..)…
Going Down (strairs)?
In order to have access, to the hidden unconscious side of our selves, we need to ‘go down’ into the unconscious.
Finding the secretary there is interesting as it indicates the part of yourself that keeps the Akashic Records of your soul. This secretary knows you better than you know yourself, screaming at her is silly! In fact, she knows you need your higher, masculine ‘master’ (logic)self there, to sort it all out… because anything that takes place in the basement (or lower levels of the dream-building) invariably pertains to our views on our sexuality in some way.
The Secretary’s quill is VERY symbolic here, as is you being stuck between the male upstairs and the female below. The quill speaks to you of your deep need to be more expressive of your thoughts and feelings, because you have a story to tell.
Being frustrated in all this, causes you to find the open door as a means of escape. Doors appearing in dreams as a means of escape signify that we need to find a different solution to the one we initially thought of to solve the problem. The fact that you didn’t run, is a great sign of you overcoming these difficulties besetting you.
Kleo, to see those tears in your dream is a really good omen, as it means that having realised there is nowhere to run, you are releasing and cleansing the pent up emotions ..(possibly of not having Hugh Laurie after all *chuckle…)…
/seriously/ to be crying in our dreams means we feel we may not be able to give way to emotions in our everyday life. Here, we can in the safe scenario of the dream torment. It is safe. Often this also signifies the beginning of compassion in our waking lives too.
Going Up (stairs)?
A good sign, now that the emotions are released. Climbing stairs is indicative of the effort we must make, to have access to the more mystical, spiritual side of our being. It can simply be by the exertion we practice every day.
Here, because of the quill, I believe it is all to do with your desire to write.
These beings are part of your soul group and a browse amongst the Colours in Dreams <<here>> will help with the areas which are most important – marking your way forward – to completing the great entertainment…. (..your completed written work)? They are the mystical you seek.
The ‘setting’ of the archetypes (the Hulking Great Vikings) remains consistent with the past life 'scenes.' holding the fears and terror of terrible events, no longer a threat, but already past in previous lives.
Kleo, if they were showing you a thick neck, it is a sign that you are becoming too quarrelsome, but if it was your own ‘normal’ neck, the message is about the place within you that joins the two things together, reuniting fragmented halves of something shattered. Necks are about being flexible and not rigid. Perhaps, in this case, the upper and lower domains of the psyche, the need to balance of spiritual and physical?
The belt here is classic, because to dream of a belt that attracts our attention, represents the fact that we are being bound by old attitudes, duty and so on. … (..the fact that it was a girth here, may indicate your duty to the horses)… competing for your writing time?
Intellectually, the belt suggests we may be ‘hide-bound’ through outdated material.
Either way, the belt is a symbol that resides in dream-lore, with those of power and if we wield it, it’s about the power we have. If someone else is wielding it, it’s about the power we give away.
If others in your dreamscape are laughing at you Kleo, it means you have a great fear of being ridiculed. Perhaps we also sometimes even find ourselves embarrassing?
Brrrrriinnnngggg!!!! Off goes the bell!
Thank God it was not a tolling bell as that often portends bad news, even death. But that is plainly not the case here, as I take it, it was a more modern alarm bell?
These types of bells are symbols of communication, of needing approval, and of a desire to communicate with someone from whom we have become estranged and distanced in some way.
Bells forewarn of danger and are often considered lucky. THis bell rang as a warning for you ... perhaps tracking down the estranged one is not a good avenue to pursue?
I’m sure you can put all this together Kleo, as you’d be an old hand at it by now, but I think there is a lot of ground covered here and much progress towards your goals of balance and the peace and time to write more, perhaps.
A positive, regenerative dream, pointing to the direction you need to take.
I hope that helps my darling.
Lilla …

You have no idea how helpful you are....Thankyou so much for the links and for the giggles along the way....
When you lay it out for me it all seems so EASY, but after a vivid one my emotions rule over the symbolisim.
I would love to see someone about past lives but most psychics tend to shy away from me. Ive had it happen so many times that now Im the shy one. My energy in person is rather....Electric? I give shocks. Animals, people....
Thankyou also for the direct way you deal with each part. The extensive information. It feels right. By the time we got to the end I was saying "I know what the girth strap means!" And believe me, I felt stupid yelling at the secretary! Dont worry, shes used to it....
And, so, so sorry, to lay another one on you so soon....
Last night I dreamed of Dad. The way he was before the horse riding accident that changed us both. Long story short, we both fell off at the exact same time, and we both almost died. That fall is responsable for my headaches(I cracked a helmet in two - woke up on the ground with a stirrup leather wrapped around my leg and a helmet cleanly broken in two) After that Dads health declined and he moved to QLD.
In the dream he was HERE, we were having some kind of party with lots of people, and mum seemed excited by him being there(very out of character!) Towards the end he grabbed my arm - he was so VITAL, So YOUNG - and told me urgently that I had to come with him. He had land up there, beautiful land, with a house on it, and I had to come and claim it. He told me I had to come now - just get on the plane with him. His eyes were sparkling and his hair was dark and muscles strong. He was 45 when I was born so Ive never seen him that young. But he has always had a fantastic energy. I think I got on the plane - I seem to remember flying with him beside me over a mountain top. But its not clear.
Dad is a vietnam vet and one of the first group of Special Services. He was so desperate to be a soldier he snuck in at 15. He is also not my REAL father, apparently they tried to choose a sperm donor with similar characteristics.
Im really praying he didnt die last night. Ive sent him an email because we dont talk and havnt for years but he has shown up on my blog once or twice. I have mixed feelings about him - the little girl still loves him and is desperate for his attention but the woman has a lot of unanswered questions. He claims he never cheated on mum which is what broke up the marriage - so I was told.
Annywaay......Nice to know Im not alone in the Hugh Laurie stakes.....I bet he'd go off like a frog in a sock eh Lilla?

so much for prompt replies ey? The stoopid notifications thingo is on the bung again at orble I think, I'm jus tnot getting them ... or I'm finding my notifationc toggle firmly in the 'No' position, knowing full well I switched it to 'Yes.' ho hum (?)
I love dreams of my Dad they ar always magical indeed. For me they usually portend peaceful, good experiences and progress on my path. I hope yours do the same for you, sweetie.
Dreams of Dad are only positive though, if the waking relationship was a good one. Generally, in a woman's life dreams of Father are about the 'patterns' on whom girls base their relationships on.
When you work out in your dream that you no longer need this pattern, a girl can work out in dreams a more appropriate way to have a more mature relationship.
If the relationship with your Father has been a negative or difficult one, there may be some resistance to resolving the various conflicts with have arisen, this is often accomplishes in the dreamworld.
*chuckle* Oh I don't know about that Kleo, I had only got as far as to meet with Hugh and see if the conversation was as witty as it is on the Box? He's a Gemini and a master number, so I'm sure it would be interesting at least, but if he can't make me laugh... it doesn't matter what he looks like. Glad he's back though on 3rd October woo hoo, can't wait. . . for the next season.
Lots hugs
