In his work entitled *Sacred clowns* Tony Hillerman writes ~ *.... This business of hozho. The way I understand it ... I’ll use an example. Terrible drought, crops dead, sheep dying. Spring dried out. No water. The Hopi, or the Christian, maybe the Moslem, they pray for rain. The Navajo has the proper ceremony done to restore himself to harmony with the drought. You see what I mean. The system is designed to recognize what’s beyond human power to change, and then to change the human’s attitude to be content with the inevitable.* : The truth is, Dreams Help Us Adjust in exactly the same way . . .

Unusual Toilets ?

May 15th 2009 06:54

A few of you have asked me what visiting the littlest room at night is all about, and since I have (over the years) also been a common visitor to this random nocturnal dream cue, I thought I might share with you some of my more common discoveries; beyond those obvious occurrences in our earliest of years when dreaming of the loo would usually result in the inevitable bedwetting.

I mean the adult toilet (and all its paraphernalia), that strange place to go when considering the human psyche, id and ego and what we might be doing wandering around such a place in the middle of our dreamscape? Of course, the first port of call for any good Oneiromancer is to read what Freud thought we might be doing there in the first place and I would have excepted him to say it means something about our sexuality, and of course I was not disspointed in finding Freuds interpretations as exactly that. (Wow big surprise!). Something about repression of feelings.

Not stopping there of course, one worth their salt, would be wise to forget what Freud thinks and venture onto to Karl Jung*s collective conscious ooze and even further afield to some classics like Alfred Adler, Henry Havelock and farther still to Artemidorus Daldianus himself; not to mention those Gypsies and old folktales, along with some pretty divinely guided souls and Angels liek Raphael : all who themselves, probably also questioned why you would want to visit such a strange place as the dream dunny, when you could be fantasising about lovers, beauty, and even lottery wins, not to mention those passionate kisses and paragliding.

But, silly or not (and when is the human race anything other than so ~ especially since the turn of the century?), here we are, night after night visiting the loo during the one time of day, when we really don*t have to interrupt our routines to actually be there at all?

Sillier still, the inevitable truth that when you do dream of visiting the loo, it usually means that there is someone around you (in your waking world), who wants to make your relationship better. Someone special who is looking (unknown to you) to find ways to improve it and make it better.

Bet you didn*t see that coming?

Be warned, this post might include some floaties too, albeit of the dreamy kind, which unlike those of the daytime variety, surprisingly rarely create bad odours for the dreamer themselves, so much so that a lack of odour here also denotes good things and a positive sign that your future is brighter than you currently expect or can imagine.

To the Gypsy*s dreams of the toilet remain symbols for dirt and relate to our a lack of appreciation in some capacity, however more recently experts are leaning more towards this littlest of rooms equating to our feelings of privacy (and its infringements), which makes good sense; more so in our ability to reach a state where we can release our feelings in private. One could say a visit to the nocturnal loo may well indicate your need for space in your waking world.

Too many demands on you lately, a visit to your dream loo is saying: address the issues, make some space for yourself.

To those who study them, our dreams provide the very antidotes we need and spiritually of course, the dream dunny itself is alerting us to the fact that we have the means at our disposal to cleanse away the negative whenever we are ready.

In fact, by simply being in the same room as the loo is telling you that you are now able to open to conversations, new ways of communications and demonstrations of love; if you will only give yourself half the chance and make half an effort. The rewards of doing so will guarantee new closeness that will benefit your union on all levels. You will get more cooperation from the other person than before, so give it another go because where you have failed in the past, things may be possible now, dependant on conditions :

The BIG clues here, lie in the small details. So pay attention. .

Something Wrong With The Toilet / Unable to Use it for some Reason ~ You are emotionally blocked, go and get some energy healing, Past life Regression, learn to meditate, or start a new diet and exercise routine. Take a holiday, mini break or day trip. Suggest a separation from everyone for a while, to sort yourself out. Catch a plane, train or boat to somewhere you have never been before.

An Unfamiliar or Really Unusual Toilet ~ Is showing you your insecurity in marching into the unknown without knowing a specific outcome. You may proceed with confidence. Remember, knowing is often better than not knowing, good or bad. Take note of the things that are peculiar here. For example ; in the picture above : this unusual toilet continaing computers, suggests a scenario depicting a fear of moving further with technology, perhaps you are feeling out of your depth about something new being introduced into your life in this regard? As to the picture here to the right, such a gaping, laughing mouth may well indicate that the fear of being laughed at is preventing you from moving forward. (Look to the clue in the strange symbolism of the toilet).

Cleaning a Dirty Toilet ~ Congratulations, you are loosing your previously *prudish* attitude.

To Flush the Toilet (after Use) ~ The changes in finding new ways of conversation and communication ill occur very rapidly and with great ease.

Unusual Things Floating That Have No Business Being There ~ You are loved beyond your imagination by people you least expect and someone is very happy with you. You should expect the unexpected as someone will make their feelings known to you when you are next in a position of privacy. These feeling will be easily revealed. (note the object that is flating for further clues).

Toilet Paper ~ This is a green light when it comes to moving ahead with some plans you have been cogitating over in the compost of your mind. FOLLOW YOUR HUNCHES 100% and GO FOR IT! The timing is right now for two weeks, to make the impossible is now possible.

Crowded Toilet ~ Stop trying to be accepted by everyone. Too many people know your business. Stop telling everyone your plans, secrets and fears, especially family and close friends. Back off, step back and clear some room around yourself. Go on a retreat and say nothing for a few days. Ponder the power of silence and take back your control.

Toilet Water ~ Unknown to you, the money you have been hoping to *find* will only come to you after you are asked to perform a favour. Pay attention to who asks for what over the coming few weeks. It is a test and lucky omen as abundance, love and affection are indicated by good choices.

Toilet Brush ~ Something is missing and you need to add some excitement to your relationship. You will be able to work it out with a little effort and become closer than before. Try some open honest dialogue, perhaps on subjects you have been previously afraid to broach openly. You can confidently start this rebuilding process within the week.

Toilet Deoderiser ~ No doubts about it, you have (and probably are) right in the middle of making a big personal decision. Have no fear, it will work out beautifully if the deoderiser should appear in your dream dunny, as it augurs that all will come up smelling roses.

Lilla,

I had a dream a little while back where I needed to go to the toilet and when I went into the ladies, it was facing onto the main street and all the toilets were out in public and I couldn't go. I'm not sure I like what that says about me, after reading this.

Hi Lilla
My Mum wants to make a comment here but can't access her blog:
Hi Lilla,
I had this weird toilet dream quite a few years ago.
It was a public toilet and it was white and sparkling. Someone had shown me in there and was very proud of this pristine place. But there was no actual toilet! I'm thinking - where do I go? I know the person in the dream said something but I never remembered what that was.
I get the connection with emotional blockages but what do you think this meant?

LOL Nice one Lilla - I actually have a post to publish about a World of Warcraft toilet habitat.

The toilet with all the women looking I have either used the exact one or one very similar. I laughed very hard when I was in there.

There is the fantastic toilet in Darwin - where you pee onto a glass wall that is a one sided mirror - all the guests are on the other side eating dinner and they can't see you but you get to see them all and pee in their direction.

hi Samaritan,

I see your point!

Maybe a day trip by yourself out to Bungendore or Braidwood, mix it up with the terminally twee for a few hours of tea, museums and scones?

How about Jindabyne or Sydney for a weekend mini break?

Sometimes a walk around the botanical Gardens on Black mtn (or the lake) can be just what the doctor ordered, especially early when the baloons are on their way. I used to love to go up the Brindabellas int he wintertime and collect rosehips from the bushes up there (or out past the Cotter); gosh I must have walked all over those hills collecting mushies (not the magic kind) and rosehips. I was in training by this old polish woman as to what was good to collect and eat during the winter months in the hills around you.. you live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, climatically and geographically. Enjoy it as much as you can, take the kids on a bush ramble ~ out past Duffy is always good for pine cones in the winter too, and they make great fire starters. Youc an spray then gold and silver for the Christmas tree too if you are so inclined ... I could go on, but i*ll stop there.

I wish you much peace and happiness.

Lilla,

I have a group of friends who usually get together for a monthly outing and we've been to all the places you mentioned (except Sydney). Perhaps it's time to arrange another one. I think last month we didn't do anything, because everyone was busy with Easter etc.

And mushroom collecting. You brought back memories then that I had forgotten I had. I remember going mushroom collecting with my grandmother. I haven't thought about that in years.

Hi Jimmy,

Sorry to hear about your mum, tell her I appreciate her kind thoughts and am glad she enjoyed the post.

Teresa,

Not much to add to the central theme here : the sparkling bathroom is clearly an indication that you (or this person) doesn*t have a prudish attitude and a good thing, however the lack of *facility* does suggest the lack a means of purging energy blockages. Agreed. Yours or theirs? Did you recognise the person? I am leaning towards this person being an innocent part of yourself that you are trying to incorporate back into your psyche, but found that you lacked the ability, or skills needed to achieve the integration needed to accept them back in, by needing the toilet itself (often the help of someone else)?

Confirmed too that a lack of a loo can often mean that you are/were also feeling a lack of support, or that the person in your life you relied on back then, was keen to help you and make the relationship *work,* but not committed enough when push came to shove to actually do so?

When we see things in dreams that are about extra cleanliness (no matter where), it is believed to be a sure sign that you are able to draw an elusive (seemingly disinterested) person towards you ~ and towards greater affection. But here in the bathroom with no where to go to clear the spiritual pathways needed to bring the change needed to solidify that relationship, (from past trauma and fears, failures and the means to overcome them or whatever); it left you feeling frustrated : unable to understand what the stranger said. .

The shame is that you missed the words spoken, yet I bet they were constructive. Towards healing.

Have you dreamt of this bathroom since and actually found a toilet in there? (this would show progress, as progress we do in life, no matter what)

I wish you were here in Queensland, as I would be able to take you towards fast tracking that healing process: to a very special man who is an amazing energy healer, who specialises in Emotional Regression Healing therapy to unblock and release all the energy knots left from past trauma (this and previous lives sometimes) : better than Draino, truly. I cannot tell you how liberating this experience can be, you have to experience it for yourself. And he only needs to see you once in your life, but he takes about 4 hours too and he works without all the trauma being relived too; which is what puts so many people off from beginning their journey down the pathway of true emotional healing. (You know coming out of survival mode and moving into *living* mode).

Failing your ability to take a trip up here and see this person; all I can suggest is trying to find an energy healer there where you are. There used to be a man called Mr Bell in Melbourne who was considered quite a brilliant sort of fellow in this sphere. But he was old back then, God knows if he is even still alive today? Look for someone who can do emotional regression therapy to take you back through your life and move you through where the problems arose.

The fact that there was no toilet is a strong indication that your self preservation mechanisms were failing and needed work from a professional in these fields, because the trauma goes a long way back and quite deep. So much so, as to have removed your natural unconscious defence mechanism (the dunny), this is reinforced by the colour white being so prevalent too, as it is the colour associated with innocence and purity.

However, white is also a colour of lucky omen when seen so clearly in dreams and can usually means that someone is on the way to help you with the problem, whiten also heralds an offer too good to refuse. An angel (as a heaven sent human), helped you to enjoy a better lifestyle than the one you previously had. White is a sign usually that the power of God is with you. You will have the creativity you need to accomplish what you set out to do despite the difficulties, it is only your ability to talk yourself out of achieving success that is to be considered as the enemy here, and again where the problems from the past can come up to bite you and why it is so important to get them *cleared* energetically. Regardless, white always suggests that you go for the big plans and some degree of success is yours to enjoy.

A course in psychic protection would certainly never go astray as is the need for many of us to find a way to reclaim our power through regression pathways. Otherwise ALL the good just doesn*t seem to reach us, somehow? Not just for our own satisfactions, but in order to have more to offer others when wanting to be altruistic.

Ironically Clinical Whiteness of tiled rooms can often suggest a malicious person who comes with a trustful demeanour and leads you to believe anything you tell them will be kept confidential, when in reality this is not the case as they are tricksters pumping you for information about a third party usually, and to return your words to them. Clinical rooms are always seen in this way and ask you to be alert to this situation in your waking world. Perhaps not to relevant in this case as you were definitely aware that you were in a toilet and not a clinic, but I thought it worth mentioning, anyway.

Not everything I could say here and really not as much time as I would like to spend on cross checking and analysing this one, but I have to put the dinner on. Bacon bone soup with stacks of root vegetables tonight, my kids favourite.

Hope it helps you work through a little more Teresa.

much warmth.

Jason,

That first picture is about new video gaming toilets being trialed in Germany I think, thee is a link at the end of the post for more information on this new phenomenon. Me I am old fashioned, I like a good book, you wouldn*t think that the tension of shooting a hundred bad guys would ease the situation at all, but what do I know?

((laughs)) As for that Japanese novelty . . Well, what could I add? ...um... only in Japan, perhaps?

As for actually dreaming of piddling up against a two way glass mirror in a restuaruant? That would be something new and make for some pretty interesting dream analysis. Please do let me know if you should ever have this dream, I would welcome the information it revealed about your state of mind and affiairs? *chuckle*

Although I can tell you, that dreaming of Japan (or things Japanese) in general means that some legal matters around you will work out to your advantage. There is a hint here too that things will work well in miniature and/or you should be looking towards the details in all things.

Not exactly what you expect, huh?

Thanks for the chuckle, I needed a good laugh.

Nevar,

This magical place I speak of, is along the south eastern range, around the Australian Capital of Canberra : in what some would call the lower slopes of the Australian Alps. namely the South easter Part of the state of New South Wales.

Not quite as cold in the winter as your place, although it does get that way a little farther south in the snow fields around Mt Kosiosko (named after some Polish explorer) and surrounds.

They are not really mountains in your sense of the word mind, but do support a lovely alpine climate and fauna and flora, unfortunately also a bnch of loser poltiicians too (being the capital of the place), but one can overlook that in leu of the fine fir trees and fresh mountain air.

You must have rose hips there too where you are, they like the alpine climate and make fine tea in the winter time to ward of the ills of the cold. I think I would love your part of the woods too, but have to live tropical atm because of my daughter*s inability to tolerate the cold due to her CP.

aah but these days I have my memories of 15 years in those hills and mountains to keep me warm and do miss them all along iwth the hearty rosehip tea sipped around big log fires. I travel south each year or two to stay in the cooler months (mainly the autumn) and visit friends.

Hopefully one day I*ll visit your neck of the woods too, this latest craze of Twilight which takes place in Forkes, Washington has my girls very interested in those mossy covered woods. Maybe they think they*ll find heores there too?

*chuckle* aah the wonder of the young, still its one part of the world I haven*t yet seen and I do have a friend in both Vancover and Toronto, too. you nevar know I could win the lottery too. *chuckle*

But ok - here you go - a dream (more lilke an image flash) of a toilet (no lid or cistern) sitting in the middle of a vacant basketball court. Nobody around.

Hi Samaritan,

They sound like beautiful memories to cherish and it is exactly the feeling I had when I wrote my comment. Being an immigrant to Australia, I only ever met my Grandmother twice on my mothers side and never on my fathers. But you know, God always gives through the spirit and if we are open to receiving *new* or *surrogate* family members this way, we often find ourselves inundated with such family and this Polish lady was just such a person for me. My Grandmother in spirit. Did yours live in C. too?

As I said to Nevar above, so many great memories to keep me warm too, against the rigours and cold storms that life often throws our way.

Hi Jason,

Hahahahaha well the first you remember perhaps, although I probably stand guilty as charged *chuckle* and so interesting too, you have me miffed?

In a basketball court no less, cor blimey, that*s a first, I don*t know what that means, I’ll have to check through my records. . . hang on a tick . .

Oh I see ... hmmmm ...

yes, it could mean that I s*pose ...

um... yes, I can see where that may come into it too.

Let*s see what Jason thinks shall we?

Forgive me but this is rather a curly one, as the details are sketchy in so far as you not being able to remember whether you (a) needed to use said receptacle; or (b) was trying to reach said loo; or (c) was alone on the court, or with other people? Had someone shown you this magical place and facility or you beamed in and out, or walked there or rode your bike there: landed your spaceship there perhaps? As you say, just a sudden flash! All that sort of lead up stuff (and what was on either side of it in the dream) that is so important, but no less, let*s see what we can glean from the three things we have here in their single essences.

It seems to me that you could be right in that you have been introduced to a new concept (perhaps through this post itself) of how to think about others outside of yourself also suffering when misunderstandings occur, or avoiding certain functions/situations/questions because of a feeling of inadequacy in being able to stop misunderstandings? But now a new player on the field (pardon the pun) the humble dream loo which allows us the psychological ability to distance ourselves enough to be able integrate and purge unwanted emotional blockages, control our conversations better : pure and simple.

In that the toilet was missing bits, suggests that you are still sketchy on a subconscious level as to your own self awareness of why certain buttons get pushed and or misunderstandings arise/inadequacies are felt when they shouldn*t be there, just mucking things up? However Basketball as a symbol is a great place to find your loo because basketball as a dream symbol usually is said to pre empt a surprise of some sort ~ and most often a really good one at that : confirmed here by the court, which also augurs a festive occasion is afoot!

The loo being out of the toilet altogether and in the middle of the basketball court suggests to me that you will soon meet someone at a festive function (you would otherwise probably not attend), who will either help you make an estranged relationship better (possibly even just with yourself where a certain issue is concerned) , or that the *party* or *event* itself will help you unblock some pent up feelings that have begun to build about your abilities/skills/value etc.,

I strongly suggest you attend the event when the invitation arrives, despite your initial misgivings

Lilla . .

PS a word about *visions* within dreams (as this flash seems to have been one), it is a warning to be careful of your words and to choose them wisely, so that you do not injure the feelings of another who seems toughter than they are. This may be pertinent at this up coming function (again confirming the above). Good Luck the omen is a good one for success!

Hi Lilla,

I'm pretty lucky because my grandmother lives just seven houses down the road from me. In fact, one of the reasons why I wanted to move to this house is most of the happiest memories from my childhood happened when I was visiting her and it's nice to be living in the same area as where they took place.

It was funny when I moved here though, because people would stop and have a chat to me, and ask about my sister and my parents and seem to know everything about me - and I had no idea who they were.

Hi Lilla,
Thanks for your expansive response.
I had that ‘sparkling toilet’ dream about 10 years ago - one of my many dreams about toilets - either crowded or, like Samaritan’s, in a public space. It is good to get your interpretation. It has puzzled me but now seems much clearer. At the time I was very unhappy, disconnected and felt I had no support (though I can see now it was more my inability to ask). I can’t remember what words the strange woman said but she was put out when I said there was no actual toilet. This place was her pride and joy.
It is interesting to remember the dream now. I have had a lot of dreams where something I was trying to suppress was forced into my consciousness. I know we all do, some people are just more aware of it. Sometimes it’s like you get taken through a complex symbolic enactment then the answer or the bit you need to focus on is there in your conscious as you wake.
Energy healing is amazing when you get the right person. I learned it myself but have hardly done it in a long time.
Now you’ve got me thinking about toilet training …

hi Jimmy,

Sorry for the delay in responding here, but I have been so busy, not even enough time to visit the little room sometimes!

I know we all do, some people are just more aware of it. Sometimes it’s like you get taken through a complex symbolic enactment then the answer or the bit you need to focus on is there in your conscious as you wake.

Where is the hammer and the nail?

I write it all down as quickly as possible at that point, with the revelations I have about the insights gained too, but lately with family chattering and daily life encroaching, I found that I would loose things/meanings. It is here that I find the study of the symbology itself a brilliant way of nudging my memory ack to the initial insights, although I don*t know why I should want to do so, because once the insight is gained, it becomes a part of your waking , walking daily life. It is like the difference between reading the book and actually living what*s in it.

The opposite is true too, in that sometimes getting the meaning for the dream symbol knocks the insight out of my head, which is frustrating and can take days for it to resurface. . . but it usually does, interestingly enough mor readily, when i just step away in another direction altogether.

Energy healing is amazing when you get the right person. I learned it myself but have hardly done it in a long time.

I am impressed, it is one of Gods highest gifts I think, to be able to help heal others and i hope one day that life circumstances blend to give you the right conditions to use it again.

Now you’ve got me thinking about toilet training

hahahaha not one I actively try to remember yet one I can never forget myself! You*d have to meet my mother to find out why, but trust me, she could make anything stop flowing at ten paces.

Hiya Ash,

Thanks for the lovely compliments and encouragement, I rally enjoyed this one as I have dramt of loos for years. . which went away in 2007/8, but have having a few more loo dreams earlier this year again and thought it appropriate.

Following that, (coincidentally), I also dreamt of a snake the other night, it bit me fair and square in theback and lo! today i uncovered a jealous little gremlin in my *network* undermining my efforts to forge ahead on my chosen path. I have it sorted now and am pleased it bit me so hard. It woke me up!

I have learnt so much about snakes since I did that post, I really should add some things, but I am so busy.

I hope your path is also going well, talking of which mine is leading upwards again this weekend... up the steps, all the way to the top and some mindfulness in the hills

Talk again soon . .
