Dream Postions : ->You Are Here <-

February 19th 2008 04:55
When a position is highlighted in your dream, it can be interpreted as the symbol of your moral standpoint, or position in life - how you see your place in the world, through time, morality and beliefs.

Within your position, is reflected your relationship to life, which can be viewed as one and the same, because as you know, that in your waking life, it is your Attitude which dictates your Altitude. Often perfected in your dreamscapes through the constant exploration of and adjustment to ... altitude (position)... experiences and beliefs are transformed into true success tempered by wisdom in the waking world.

With all the Positions listed here, the relevance will be highlighted by the relations of your position to the object in question. If a person, then look to your feelings to that person, or those people (as in community, social mores, rules, authority). If an inanimate object, note its colour and symbolic meaning for clarification of the current viewpoint within your character that needs reflection, or confirmation.

Back/Front ~ symbols of rejection and acceptance. Front traditionally interpreted as being acceptance and a back seen as rejection.

Backward/Forward ~ to be aware of moving in both directions within a dream-frame, you are alerted to a backward-looking tendency, of retiring into the past, instead of tackling things and moving ahead.

Centre/Middle ~ to be aware that you are dead centre of any position, is to be aware of your real self, or motivations and the current goal, or objective. There is a need to be the centre of attention here, whatever the waking circumstances.

Closeness ~ deals with intimacy and your feelings on it as you mature and grow through life’s experiences. It can be someone you feel close to, or reflect an ideal or principle that you hold dear.

Direction by Compass Points/mapping (North, South, East, West) – Click Link : Maps/Mapping directions

Great Distance Away ~ According to Gypsy folklore, this is a dream of isolation, of feeling shut out, remote, on the outside looking in. It is also more traditionally seen as a symbol for an unattainable aim or goal in the waking life, or a set of beliefs from which you feel detached. Either way, unachievable goals are signified through the feeling of isolation.

Far/Near ~ most dreamscapes have a distorted view of time and space, so this one is tricky to interpret. However, there are a few guidelines to follow;

Far in front – suggests a long time ahead in a future time.

Way behind – suggests the distant past.

Near or close here – would suggest recently, or the immediate future.

In Front/Behind ~ Things that lie behind you are generally things of the past. Ideas, ideals, situations, experiences all lay there, left behind. What lies in front of you, therefore, in the future is yet to be lived, experienced, dreamt of, or planned.

Note the object that is behind or in front of you for full clarification. If a person, then possibly a real encounter, new friend, or old enemy; if an inanimate object, then research its symbolic meaning, for clues to the personality trait implied. (See Locations and Components of Buildings Series for household objects).

Higher (looking down, above, upstairs) ~ the higher functions of spirit, ideals and intellect are being bought to your attention, perhaps even your relationship with God is being challenged, or growing in some way. Again, note the object that is higher, because its symbolic meaning will offer further clarification.

Robert Cross Smith (pen name Raphael), astrologer and oneiromantic of the nineteenth century, believed this position a good omen indicating that the dreamer will eventually rise above the current difficulties, to a notable position of authority.

Horizontal ~ This position is seen as a symbol of the material world.

Left ~ Traditionally seen as the passive, intuitive side of personality. It can also be relied upon to represent all that we believe to be dark and sinister, especially of the parts of our personalities we try to suppress. A shame, because in truth it is our instinctive side that is being highlighted: that part which feels good without much regard for moral codes and yet must be acknowledged in some subjective way, for ultimate happiness.

The Left Side – is a dream of some support being offered to you.

Pain on the Left –
is highlighting that you are becoming more sensitive and should take care to avoid harsh environments, people and situations.

Left Behind – a symbol of inadequacy, or feeling it. Sometimes we must fall apart first, in order to leave the past behind and re-build a new future, with the wisdom gained from our mistakes.

Left/Right Conflict – is the conflict between logic and intuition, if the Left is predominant, or wins; then your cue is to err on the side of your intuition.

Lower (looking up, below, downstairs) ~ the shadowy immoral side of our character is being explored within the safe confines of the dreamscape. Often anarchic in nature, the sexual impulses are characteristic of this lower realm and can signify the need to explore the underside (or intrinsic negativity) of a relationship or situation.

Click Link : Underground for additional meaning.

Gypsy folklore states that to see yourself as lower than a person in your dream indicates a moral or intellectual superiority complex in waking life, which may be masking feelings of inadequacy.

Ask yourself; is it self rule or power over others that you seek?

Click Link : Stairs/steps for more details.

Opposite ~ (yourself), suggests you are having trouble reconciling two paradoxes.

An object deliberately placed Opposite another – Subterfuge. Someone is deliberately trying to introduce conflict and discord. Be alert, to those around you at this time.

Right ~ Universally seen as the dominant logical side of personality. It is the strong confidently expressed side of ourselves, which perceives the exterior world in an objective sense. It is to do with the “rightness” of moral and social behaviour.

On the Right Side – significant progress.

Movement to the Right – Something is coming into your conscious awareness.

Right/Left conflict – is the conflict between logic and intuition, if the Right is predominant, or wins; then your cue is to err on the side of your logic and reason.

Something in the Wrong Position ~ A secondary meaning sometimes veiled behind the obvious is that something in the ‘wrong position’ is suggesting that we are not handling something in our lives properly, because we have been going about things in the wrong way. Take note of the object that is thus wrongly situated and seek out it’s symbolic meaning.

Straight ~ take the shortest way between two points, people or objects.

Top ~ to be at the top of anything is a sign of success in any reality. Congratulations, if not already, then you will succeed in your endeavour soon. More often than not, it is the moment of control over ourselves that is represented by this dream symbol.

To be trying to get to the Top – suggests more effort is needed. Hang in there, you are making progress.

Underneath something ~ Either you need to take shelter, or someone has taken over running things for a while, to allow time for rest. Sometimes it can be relating to the part of us we consider incapable, which is hidden through attracting domineering people, or situations into our lives to run them for us, absolving responsibility.

Up/Upper ~ you have what you need to gain the ‘upper hand’ and achieve your goals. To be able to get on top of the situation and finally reach supremacy, moving away from the mundane, ordinary everyday world.

Upper Part of Anything - Time to check your altruism and intentions.

Ups and Downs ~ seeing yourself in a constant state of flux between the two whilst traversing the dream environment (say in a Lift), signifies that both good and bad events will be forthcoming over the coming few weeks in swift succession. Stay detached and try not to over react till things calm down again, when reflection will offer a clear interpretation of the lesson involved and your need for it.

Perhaps you feel like you are doing much, but getting nowhere in the waking world? This dream is a clear sign that you need to stop filling up the diary with ‘events,’ mistaking activity for movement. Learn how to meditate.

The personality has a need to balance the heights and depth of its experience in the spatial waking world, and if time is not allowed for this to happen (through meditation or simply reflection) in the waking hours, then this dream of fluctuation comes as a warning to stop.

Take more notice of your daily experiences, nothing happens by chance, you are missing vital clues about your own myth and purpose.

The Upside-Down House of Poland (see below)
Upside Down ~ highlights the dormant probability of chaos and problems to follow.

Vanishing ~ One of the most predominant and annoying things in dreams is that people and objects will vanish without warning. Things that vanish are forgotten upon awaking and as one modern Dreamologist states, the reason is that;

“…the subject of the dream has not yet fully fixed itself in consciousness and the reason we dream in the first place. That is why working with dreams (through keeping a dream journal) can in fact, ‘fix’ the information our subconscious is attempting to give us.

Consider it very important work in your maturation process and you'll be rewarded by the most amazing journey you ever travelled.

Suffice to say that when an object or person suddenly vanishes in the dream, they will often appear in the waking world.

“The mind has a great capacity for magic; to dream of things vanishing, and then possibly reappearing, highlights this.

Vertical ~ represents the spiritual realms and your ability to access and traverse them.

The Upside-Down House of Poland

About the Upside Down House of Poland : Polish artist Daniel Czapiewski built the upside-down house at the Centre for Education and Regional Promotion in the village of Szymbark in Poland. The house rests on its own roof representing the times of the Communist era, as well as the times we live in today; Czapiewski vividly presented the change of values that have pervaded the countries of the former Eastern bloc, since the fall of the wall and the start of the transition process.

I really liked 'Top' cos last night I had one helluva dream....One of those vibrant ones that replays throughout the day right down to the detail on blades of grass....
We moved in to a new rental, and were happy enough on our first night - you know, abstract locations for watching tv and clothes and kitchen...and I remember being high up, looking down on the horses. When I got up in the morning, all the horses were in the paddocks in front and below the house. I was puzzled, because I hadnt put them there. I thought I had more acres out the back behind the stables - 5 to be exact.
So I saddle up Mags (Who Ive just broken in...My first broken horse! Hooray!) and go looking for my lost acres. We end up on a rocky and dangerous trail, heading up and still up.
On the way I see an old wooden house incongrously perched on the hillside....Weird.
Then, just behind my stables (wich are covered in flowering vines and quite pretty and old fashioned) I ride out onto an open space, which just drops off into nothing, like a cliff edge. So I ride Mags back down, thinking this is far too dangerous a place for him, and get in to the house and throw a tantie. Mums trying to throw one as well, but as usual cant compete with mine, and Kman is playing Warcraft, unmoved by events...Also as usual..
So we call the landlord and wait for her to show up. Meanwhile Im looking down on the front paddocks and admiring how big and clean they are. When the landlord arrives she's a beautiful indian lady, and we ask her where are the other 5 acres? She smirks and takes us out to the cliff edge. She waves her arm over the nothingness, and says, "Why, they're right here. I'll show you" she turns about face, hangs from the edge of the cliff, and drops just like Lara Croft does it in the games!
Thinking nooo waay! I crawl to the edge and look - and beneath us, as tiny as if we're on an aeroplane, is a suburb. All mapped out houses and sporting grounds etc...I even see a few clouds between us and it. Right under us is a massive blue pool....And I see the tiny distant splash of the landlord hitting the water. Mum starts screaming "Dont do it! Dont do it" and I say "Naw, you'd have to be crazy!" Honestly, the thought of following her never entered my mind....Until mum said 'dont'. Then all I wanted was to jump! Thinking...If she made it so could I.
But instead, we head back to the house, me ranting that this is all some kind of scam to stop us getting our last 5 acres....Kman continues to play warcraft. We call the real estate agents, and are waiting for them to explain things....
Despite the detail in the house, paddocks etc, Im not sure how this one ended.
So, I like your definition of being 'up high' cos we sure were!

Excellent info Lilla, now it will be good to tie this in with the symbols.

I need to start paying more attention to my dreams again. Seems I have shut them out for a while now. That house is great - I love it! After the Hobbit house I`d like a house like that - I reckon it would make people feel at home straight away, don`t worry it`s OK for things to be updside down here! I love the detail of where it`s been pulled out of the ground too and the meaning behind it.

As always greatly appreciated and very happy that this info is still going!

Hi Kleo,

That is an interesting dream, which seems to be mirroring reality, well.

Horses are great in dreams and you'll already have looked up their significance, but Cliffs are another measure. To dream that you are on the edge of one indicates danger in both worlds... it says you are facing danger in your waking world and need to make a decision as to how to deal with a situation properly, to avoid it.... oddly, often by 'taking a risk.'

There may be a step which we need to take but which psychologically puts us on edge. So we must overcome our own fears in order to proceed with our limitations.

A leap of faith here like the 'Fool' of the Tarot, into the unknown... and a new begining.

The Gypsies have no such illusion btw, they say that to stand on a cliff edge of an abyss, is about a fear of failure, of loosing control sometimes through the inability to face up to certain situations?

Either way I look at it, this is a dream of warning and you would be wise to take it seriously and take extra care my sweet, for the next few weeks.

Hi Ash,

Yes it's a cracker and I hope to get there in this life... talking of Europe, I'll be at 'that mall' next Sat. at said coffee shop from 11.30am onwards. I hope to catch you then.

...and I hope you can catch up to write them down again. I wasn't dreaming last night, but visiting - with Heath Ledger - catching up and saying goodbye. Funnily enough we were around all these rock pools on a lovely beachy place ... and I noted it without much ado (at that time) still thinking it only a dream. The slammer came this morning, when my husband told me that the rock pools were his favourite spot in Perth and where they held his wake.

I had not read this fact and knew nothing of it before this 'dream.'

So, he is well, for those wondering and it was a delight to catch up to a young man I admired greatly.

I think I'll look at clothing in dreams next, what d'you think?

No probs Lilla, I`ll meet you at said coffee place around 11:30

Will be my last weekend on the Sunny coast before I head off overseas. Gulp. I was down there this weekend looking for a sleeping remedy... my word have I had sleepless nights as of late?! 'Rescue Remedy' is apparently the stuff... didn`t work too well last night but we shall perservere with it!

I can`t tell you how the death of Health has affected me, more than anyone 'famous' I think. Perhaps because he came across as such a lovely soul. What an amazing experience for you... that would have freaked me out! Ask him to visit me next time, I`d love to spend some time with such a wonderful person!

Clothing sounds great! I hate the stuff myself, but we must wear it unfortunately and it plays a very important role in our dreams.... I often dream of being in my Junior School uniform .

If I may put in a request (when you have time, even if it`s in 10 years!!!! Don`t feel the need to rush it, I promise!) - I`d love to also know about our emotions spilling over from our dream world to our waking world sometime. I have often woken in fits of laughter, but recently have been waking, sobbing and tears streaming. And with overwhelming smells that often don`t leave my nose for days. It`s been oranges before, which remind me my grandmother has come to visit, but as of late it`s been weed... in the dream world smoking it, in the waking world smelling it. It`s all fascinating stuff isn`t it??

Catch up with you soon, hugs to the fam

Ash,

Half a Restavite, half an hour before bed.

No residuals, no feeling like you have been kicked by a mule the next morning, no addictions and not habit forming. Guarantee you'll be asleep within half an hour of taking it, beautifully.

Available over the counter at all Chemists. (talk more on Saturday)...

Lilla ...

PS, I do not recommend you take the recommended 1-2 tablets... you may not wake for days!

Sorry Lilla but I cant remember, in terms of location, have you got anything for jungles? Last nights setting was a very detailed and vibrant jungle. But by the end it morphed into the same old nightmare I always have, even though Ive never been in a jungle, and Kman was with me.

Kleo,

Jungles are about chaos and in this case, it looks like Kman is along for the ride, helping you navigate your way through it. Jungles also speak about eruptions and urges of strong feelings from the unconscious, often from areas we consider 'uncivilised' in the waking world. You may indeed see the world as a 'a jungle out there,' as a result?

To be trapped in the jungle indicates that you are trapped by negative and frightening feelings from the unconscious with which you have not yet come to terms, but are now beginning to do so.

To have made it through the jungle alive, unbitten, or undying would indicate that you have indeed passed through, and overcome, an aspect of your life which you have never dared previously approach before.

CONGRATULATIONS!
