Not far from the truth, and any dream in which you are in a boat, ship, canoe or some form of life raft ~ basically floating ~ is indicative of your ability to deal with and rise above your emotional attachments in life.

So to dream about being in a boat is indicative of the control we have over our emotions at any given time, reflected in the condition and circumstances of our daily lives, and offering clues as to how best to deal with them through its individual symbology.
In fact, just being in a boat indicates a brilliant future ahead overall and that Good Luck is with you, if you can heed the advice given by your higher self.
Spiritually, amongst tribal cultures and ancient mystery schools; boats have often been associated with our deepest feelings towards death and our final journey. So at a subliminal level a dream of a boat, can often mean we are loosing perspective in our daily lives of the transient nature of life itself. Perhaps needlessly clinging too hard to material things, or the notion of living forever? A silly notion because by virtue of its appearance a boat is already an indication that you can stop worrying as you will enjoy health, wealth and longevity.
Falling Overboard ~ You are asked to deal directly with the reasons you will not deal with a relationship. Be careful not to allow your behaviour to destroy a good thing. Be extra careful to preserve this relationship for the coming week if it is still important to you.
A boat in Bad Weather ~ Some turbulence ahead, buckle your seat belt. You are asked to particularly watch out for an evil person, who despite not looking evil, does have a definite agenda specifically for you. Be extra vigilant of this person trying to put you under their control and don’t let yourself get involved.
Boat On Fire! ~ The person you are romantically involved in will ~ within a few days ~ mention their yearning for a deeper union. This will lead to marriage if you accept. A good luck omen. Prepare a surprise romantic outing with this person if this is the direction you want to take.
Boat People ~ Within one week you will meet someone of a different ethnic background than your own, who will become a true friend for a very long time. A truly enjoyable friendship.
TYPES OF BOATS :
Barge ~ try to look at things from a different perspective, to avoid resentment getting in the way of good times over the coming week. A different style of life indicated. Good luck is with you.
Catamaran ~ Financial improvements are on the way. You will rise above your problems.
Driftwood ~ Do not push yourself onto others as they are not interested in you at this time. Be aware that someone is leading you on emotionally by seeming to be totally in love with you when they are not.; despite all the trappings of flowers and gifts. Your feelings for this person will grow deep and strong, but if you make love to this person, those feelings will not be reciprocated. The connection will feel cold and shallow. Try to avoid this situation entirely to avoid the emotional pain that will follow. Focusing instead on your life now, will see a long desired goal within your grasp. A prosperous future is indicated and can begin to evolve within the week.
Ferry ~ Victory will be yours in every aspect of your life; health, wealth and abundace. You are heading in the right direction, focus on the things in your life that are more important and feel the most urgency about.
Note: If that pesky Ferryman is on board too, dont pay him okay? And take note that his presence is telling you that you are being too strict with yourself. You need to add some excitment, or changes to your routine...Or use it as a great excuse to buy a colourful new outfit!
Love Boat ~ Time to take out and dust of those great diplomacy skills of yours, particularly for the next few days. Let issues roll of your shoulders now when unkind words are spoken... and they will be, soon. Get on with your life and do what you can to avoid the situation altogether.
Punt ~ Think ahead. Try to avoid change that brings a bad outcome. Keep a watchful eye on projects to ensure they dont become stale, or sour.
Steam Boat ~ You must remain optimistic about your future at this time because you are headed in the right direction, despite the inability to see the horizon right now.
Tug Boat ~ You will need to motivate someone to get things moving, to make that looming deadline.
To Be On One ~ You must become focused and analytical about each move you make at this time if you want to achieve prosperity.
To See Yourself On Board ~ Someone will become more attentive towards you.
To Be On Board With a Merry Party ~ Many blessings heading your way.
Large Ship ~ This dream is alerting you to your ability to handle group relationships. It speaks to you of social interactions and you will need to take notice of those activities within the dream and look to the other symbols as to what you may need to be looking at in your daily lives.
Rough Seas ~ You are heading in the wrong direction! Time to regroup and recalculate where you made the mistake and veered off course... Do not let anyone manipulate you in a way that leads you off the path.
Ship on Fire! ~ You need to emphasise the need for more romance and foreplay in your sexual encounters.
Shipwreck ~ Do not give a new address out if you do not want to be found, get a PO Box.
Sinking Ship ~ Do not let prying family members to alter your decisions. Sometimes advice is good, but not during this cycle. Make an effort to avoid negative events in reality by using forethought.
TYPES OF SHIPS :
Battle Ship ~ You need to bring more knowledge into your line of work, for greater success. Broaden the horizons of your knowledge through new research, keep a log.
Galleon ~ Over the coming week, you need to focus and detail every move you make if you are to achieve prosperity over a short period of time.
Submarine ~ This is a time for you to connect emotionally with other people. Take some time (over the next couple of days) to be alone and sort out your feelings first, to avoid connecting in a ineffective, random way.
Stormy waters may indicate some delays in getting there.

I sat here wracking my brains trying to think of another type of vessel and ... couldn*t. Now here you are with one *lol* A ferry! *slapping forehead* I have added it to the above FYI.

The good news is that boats are generally a good sign of not being bogged down in emotions to start with, so any floating thing is a good thing... which just made me think of driftwood ... I wonder if I have anything on that?

Very interesting. The symbology of dreams is so interpretive though, isn't it? For instance, when I dreamed of adultery I woke up knowing that I needed to get away from my husband.
I have had a pretty good look at this blog - didn't read everything. I think it would be really interesting to see one (or a few!) specific dreams interpreted in real depth - with attention to that particulars of the person who had the dream and their feelings about what is happening - kind of like an agony (dream) aunt. I do realize that you have already done this in some detail but you could put out a call for dreams then choose just one or two of the most interesting to interpret. Or just tell me to mind my own business!
