..and so to sleep, per chance to dream.

Components and Locations of Buildings ~ U-Z

February 12th 2008 09:21
Umbrella ~ An eastern symbol of distinction, its appearance in a dream portends a peaceful and sheltered life, or sanctuary. It can often appear if we are working under someone’s teachings, learning special coping skills. In this case, the symbol confirms it as a safety symbol in dreams, particularly if you have doubts as to a person’s intentions.

In Gypsy folklore it is said that if the Umbrella is seen as a sunshade, then it confers status and power will be yours for the taking.

Underground ~ Sometimes disturbing, this is a pure symbol of being in your subconscious mind. Much like Alice in Wonderland, we all have opportunities to explore our hidden depths, particularly in dreams. Being underground offers us the opportunity to find hidden parts of ourselves and ways to come to terms with them.

Something Buried Underground - will be alerting you to a secret, or an aspect of yourself that is either repressed, or hidden from the rest of the world for a reason. It may be time to shine your light.

To Be on the Underground or Subway – signifies the journeys we are prepared (and sometimes forced) to take, towards understanding who we are.

Click following Cave, Rooms/Basement,, or Basement/Pit,, or Pit, for more variations of underground places.

Up/Upper ~ See POSITIONS Next Post – coming soon.

Urn/Vase ~ To the Gypsies labour is signified by this symbol. However, according to the Jungian mode, and earlier in c. 120 AD, Artemidorus Daldianus and his five-volume dream book : Oneirocritical, it can also signal that you must add creativity to your endeavours to find more satisfaction in your labours.

In general, the accepting and compassionate nature of the feminine is also represented by any empty vessel and it indicates a time for you to use your intuition and develop these traits, for your best advantage, at this time.

Varnish ~ You are either covering something up in order to hide what you believe to be imperfections, or you are trying to protect yourself to project a better image.

To Be Varnishing Something – You are no longer happy with your original creation. The Gypsies are not so kind and say this is a sign that you must stop seeking to win distinction through fraudulent means.

To see Others Varnishing – You are threatened with your friend’s endeavours being better than yours. You feel they will cheat you and add your distinctiveness to their own coffers and you will go without. (Gypsy Folklore).

A combination of the two meanings here would suggest that you try to preserve what you have already achieved by staying true to yourself, in finding ways of enhancing your ‘stuff,’ so that others can understand it better. This often takes a step backwards to reflect, before advancing boldly and confidently, with firm focus.

Vault ~ Another dark hidden place, which according to fundamental dream analysis, of course, represents either the unconscious mind or sexual matters. In this case, sexual potency, and the things we learn about as we grow and mature.

Gypsy folklore says this is not a good dream because it indicates bereavement and other misfortune.

To Be Going Down into a Vault – Again a dream of exploring our hidden depths and perhaps in this case, our feelings of death itself.

See above links at the end of Underground for variations.

Velvet ~ Look to texture and quality when fabric appears in a dream. In this case you are obviously being alerted to the sensuousness and softness as the case here, indicative of those traits. Spiritually, velvet also represents richness and giftedness.

In Victorian times it was said that to dream of velvet was to dream of discord. But today, (for some reason), it is more likely to mean the exact opposite.

According to the Gypsies, it is a dream of honour and riches to come.

Veranda ~ According to the gypsies, to dream you are on a veranda indicates that you are to be successful in some affair which is currently giving you anxiety. Relax.

Click Link : Balcony for additional meaning.

Visitors ~ A dream icon which suggests that there is some information, warmth or love readily available to us, if we reach out. It also means that news of a favorable nature will reach you soon (Gypsy folklore).

To be Visited by Someone You Know – it may mirror a real life situation and/or person. It Victorian times it was believed to be an omen that you will shortly have some pleasant occasion in your life.

To be Visiting a Friend – suggests that you may need to widen your horizons.

If the Visit is Unpleasant – the gypsies say your enjoyment in some activity will be marred by the action of malicious persons.

If a Female Visits - and is dressed in black and white, looking pale and weary, you are being warned of serious illness or accidents. Take note of this dream and address precarious situations.

Wallpaper ~ Striping it, denotes that you are trying to strip away and old persona and establish a new one, based on new insights and wisdom, gained through knowledge found in recent experiences.

Putting Wallpaper up ~ is suggesting that you are trying to journey through life on a superficial façade, this is especially true, if you are putting new wallpaper up over old paper. You would be wise to start a course in meditation and spend some time developing a deeper understanding of yourself, and projecting it in a way that allows you to be true to yourself.

It is time to align the inner and outer worlds.

Washboard ~ According to old Nordic folklore, to see this symbol is indicative of pending embarrassment.

To See a Woman Using One – is said to predict that you will let women rob you of energy and money.

A Broken Washboard – portends that you will come to grief through disgraceful deeds and fast living, if you are not careful. (gypsy folklore).

Wash-bowl ~ Since water is a universal symbol for emotions and the unconscious, washing in any form stands for achieving a relationship with our emotional side and fully dealing with the results. As a result, the Gypsies will tell you that new cares will soon interest you, and afford much enjoyment to others.

Washing Yourself, or Clothes - signifies getting rid of negative feelings.

To Bath your Face and Hands in A Bowl of Clear Water – is said to be a sign that you will soon consummate some of your more passionate wishes, binding you closely to someone who is as interested in you as you are in them.

Washing Others – deals with your need to care for others to feel alive.

If the Bowl is Dirty, or Broken – You will rue an illicit engagement and cause others great pain because of it, affording you little pleasure. (French Folklore).

WasherWoman ~ Gypsy folklore states that if you see this figure in or around your dream house somewhere, she has come to warn of infidelity and a strange adventure to come.

Watchman ~ Often our inner eye is reflected as this archetypal figure. If he is stalking about your dream house, beware of burglary, as he is an icon of warning. Make sure you lock all your doors and be mindful of your personal effects at all times, especially if you are about to travel.

Web ~ Click Link : Spider in Animals section for meaning.

Wedge ~ It is time for you to open up to the situation around you. It may mean that you have to put something into position first, to allow you to do so. It is also a warning not to become to dependant on the support currently around us.

However, if you are isolated and ‘cut off’ in some way when you see this image in a dream , it means that the support you require is on the way to you.

In alchemy a triangle symbolises the ability to manifest matter (usually through thought), so esoterically seeing it, or a wedge, symbolises the passing of time before something can become real in our lives. It will take time for your dream to become a reality.

In Gypsy folklore a wedge is believed to be a sign of pending trouble in business arrangements, which can cause separations from relatives, lovers or friends.

Welcome Greeting ~ To welcome people to your dream home is a sign that you are learning to trust yourself. Old folklore suggests that eventually this will mean that your congeniality and warm nature can now develop to the point of being your passport to many future pleasures, and desired places.

To Receive a Welcome to Someone Else’s Home – is a sign that you are becoming more accepting of who you really are.

A Welcome From A Family Member – Relationships with the family are about to become better by all concerned by accepting, and being accepted by each other.

To Receive A Warm Welcome by a Group or Society – means you will become distinguished amongst your acquaintances.

Woodpile ~ Overall, seeing wood as timber, suggests our ability to build on the past through recognition and appreciation of what has gone before. What we build now by way of relationships will be permanent, but specifically, seeing wood piled up for burning suggests unsatisfactory business and misunderstandings in love. It is better to listen now than try to get your point of view across.

Workshop ~ Click Link : Garage.

Writing ~ To dream that you are sitting writing is an attempt by you to communicate some information to yourself. You may be learning how to communicate with yourself in different ways as you progress spiritually. Writing suggests a subconscious record is being kept, and perhaps later access when visiting a pit, Basement, Vault by going Underground. (See above for links for all of these in Underground).

It is really helpful to be able to see if you can recognise any of the words or sentences being written as they will bear incredible information from your psyche.

Writing with a Pencil – the message is less permanent than one written with a pen.

Typing – suggests business communication, rather than messages of a personal nature.

A promise of a surprise through the delivery of a letter (Gypsy folklore).

~ if an X appears in your house anywhere, you are ‘Marking a spot’ for some purpose. Take note of where it appears and learn about the symbolism of the icon it appears on, or near.

Sometimes we flash an X to communicate a error in judgement on something, so if you have recently made a firm decision about someone or situation, you may be alerting yourself to the fact that it needs re-thinking.

Zoo ~ If you house should turn into a zoo, with animals running everywhere, it is time for you to take note of your urges and instincts. Note the animals carefully and look them up in my Animals In Dreams series (Click Link : A <<here>> the animals will reveal to you which areas of your self is urging recognition.

If The Animals Are Content - you are being shown an optimistic note for a desire you may not have yet expressed in waking life, because of the need to exist within the confines of a family unit or similar set-up. Again the individual animals noted in this dream, will give much insight into the areas.

Angry, prowling, Dangerous Animals – Unhappiness… there may be a need to return to simpler times, when more basic modes of behaviour were enough. Some people are just born observers, but if you find yourself in the middle of a zoo of cranky critters, it is time for you to become more involved in activities relevant to the group you are within in your waking life.

Hi Louie,

Tha's the idea. You can use it like a reference library when certain dream icons 'strike.' I have linked things to to make it easier to traverse the many levels of postings. Of course if it all gets too much (timewise) you can simply drop your dream into "Do You Have A Dream You Want Interpreted (bottom of spotlight posts) ... and I'll do the work for you. It is such an interesting read that one and you may already find many of your dreams there, already interpreted.

I am just glad that this category is over *wiping forehead* I don;t know if I would have started it, had I known how much was involved in dreaming of Buildings.

Next up (some fun)...starting with Positions, ie left, right, up, down etc.

Sweet dreams my friend.

Visiting a friend - need to widen my horizons - too true - but what if it's a peculiar visit with strange happenings, weird food offerings and in a totally inappropriate environment, at a place I know, which looks altogether different and not familiar at all, although the
"friend " was?

katyzzz....generally I don't have the kind of dreams you describe but I do have some bizarre ones.

Hi Katyzzz,

…but what if it's a peculiar visit with strange happenings, weird food offerings and in a totally inappropriate environment,

*LOL* Aren’t all dream environments and visits peculiar?

You’re ahead of me here, as I haven’t done Food yet, nor environments, or Weatherthese are yet to come … so write it down and stand-by.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by ‘inappropriate environment?’

However, to be amongst ‘strange happenings’ according to the gypsy’s suggests that some honour and success will be thrust upon you soon (perhaps recognition of peers), which may throw you into turmoil for a while. This usually comes as a result of efforts you have put in, so congratulations!

Better get some rest...

Sweet Dreamzzzzz

Hi Tracy,

My pleasure

As I said to Louie, I am just glad that this category is over *wiping forehead* I don't know if I would have started it, had I known how much was involved in dreaming of Buildings and all that 'goes on' in them. *chuckle*

Next up (some fun)...starting with Positions, ie left, right, up, down etc.

Sweet dreams my friend.

Aah success is a funny thing, most of us are frightened of it. Failure we know, don't we? We know what to do with it all and have learnt to cope well... but success... OMG, that brings a whole new 'unknown' into our world ... and as they rightly say, full of pitfalls for the soul ... *LOL* so thankfully, we usually attain smaller successes .. on the way to even loftier goals, in stages ... and I hope you will have the opportunity to enjoy it thoroughly you, no doubt deserve it.

ASH... so good to see you! *jumping up and down with glee* ..and you have been in my thoughts all week, too... on both sides of the 'veil.' I thought it felt like had drunk lots of tea...(in your dreamscape hey?) ... must be all that fresh air over there in NZ?

Thank you, a relief is a bit of an understatment and I'm celebrating this afternoon with a BIG Chai Latte on Soy at my local... and a haircut.. then some natural Henna to add some 'bling' to it all.

I'm really cooking now that I am free of Buildings *wiping forehead* and have a long list of quickie one-offs coming up. Not that this Opus won't be useful to us all in time to come and I am thrillied the posts are still offering you constructive feedback and guidance.

It was a wonderful surprise to be offered the move to a .com and I am really gobsmacked grateful.

BIG HUGGLIES

Lilla ...
