Components and Locations of Buildings ~ S

Scaffold(ing) ~ this symbol pops into your dream to let you know that all things are temporary and transient, especially with regards to the current structure around you, which is usually reflecting your waking ‘network’ of friends.
Scaffolding is so temporal a sign, that it can indicate a complete ending to a way of life and even portend a death, although it’s more likely to do with part of our personality dying, as you are living it now.
You must decide if the scaffolding in your dream, is there to repair the old, or help build the new? Either way, you’ll need it now, to reach the heights you aspire to - the scaffolding will be highlighting the spiritual support you’ll need to achieve it – and that it is available to you.
This is not a symbol of simple integration, but more of a complete need to stop or change a certain behaviour, altogether in order to get to where you want to go.
If Building New – you will receive the support you need whilst you ‘build’ your new life.
If Repairing the Old – it will support the ‘previous structure,’ whilst you make the necessary adjustments to your character to integrate the new aspects of personality/wisdom/change.
A Hangman’s Scaffold – will suggest that a part of your life must (and will eventually) come to an end.
Shop ~ if part of your house is suddenly a shop; it is appearing as such to signify the feeling that there is something that you need. Take note of the items the shop stocks, or those you purchase or look at, they will tell you where your life is unfulfilled.
Skeleton ~ here we are talking about the ‘bare-bones’ of something spooky. In gypsy folklore this dream is purely a dream of horror or fright and shunned. However, it is more likely a new idea or concept, alerting our psychological feelings about death and as such should be carefully examined.
A Skeleton in a Cupboard – often represents a past action that you are ashamed off but need to reconcile before you die.
A Dancing Skeleton – is saying be fully aware of the life you are currently living as you also believe in a judgement day and must reconcile things before you get there.
To be Digging up A Skeleton – is to be trying to resurrect some part of yourself that you had previously buried due to a bad opinion.
Talking to a Skull – means that you must recognise a deep need to communicate with those already passed on. Perhaps you should seek out a way to develop your psychic abilities as this dream often indicates a gift for clairvoyance.
If the Skull is Talking to You – part of the self that you have previously rejected or denied, is trying to make it’s way back into your personality.
Note: The skull does represent death in all its facets and since early days, is still can often be an omen of death itself, which to this day, is said to be close by when a skull appears in your dreams. As such it is also the Gypsy dream symbol for penance (Christianity).
Smells ~ odours in your dream house can mean various things, but generally to be conscious of a smell, usually means, that you are trying to specifically identify an object. This is an important symbol because whilst most other senses are sharpened in dreams, smell is not usually ‘switched on’ at all. Therefore be aware that when you can smell things you are truly trying to give yourself a special interpretation/message.
Sweet Smells – will generally be pointing to a happy time or memory. If they are fruity, look up the relevant fruit (coming in a Food In Dreams post soon).
In a Man’s Dream – according to Baltic Gypsy folklore, a sweet smell is said to be a sign that a beautiful woman will minister your daily life and you will have successful financial dealings.
A Bad, Offensive Smell – is often about trying to deal with a past trauma, which can be really disturbing. To the Gypsy’s, a bad smell is said to foretell unpleasant disagreements and unreliable servants in your waking life.
To Smell Musk – augurs a time of unexpected occasions of joy ahead of you. It was believed in olden days, that to dream of such a smell meant the end of lover’s quarrels and unfaithfulness. To this end the practice of hanging lavender around the bed was practiced by many to induce sweet smelling dreams. (Olde English).
For a Woman to Smell Myrrh – is a most auspicious omen of a pleasant surprise on the way, through the acquaintance of a wealthy man. (Romany folklore).
To Be Sprayed or Given Perfume – denotes that news is on the way. The type of news will often depend on the smell and whether it is good or bad.
Smoke ~ means that there is the feeling of danger around, especially if you cannot locate the fire. This is often a dream that portends false glory, or the possibility of latent passion yet to spark.
Stairs/steps ~ are common dream signs and outline the ‘steps’ we need to take in order to reach our goals. Each step taken in a dream, is about our awareness of the changes within any given project, or circumstance. As such, steps also represent communication of the progressive kind in the outer world.
In the hierarchical structure of spiritual progression, we must extensively refine each step, before moving on to the next, or risk failure.
Going Up Steps - augurs good fortune, success in love, a happy marriage and often a rise in life.
If the Going Up is Tough - then you are warned that to achieve your goals you will need to make much effort to refine your spirit through hard lessons. Do not seek short cuts at this time as you will miss the lesson and risk a fall.
Going Down Stairs – means that in order to achieve the success, you must first go deep into the subconscious mind, and reflect on your intentions and motivations. You are asked to look to your inner wisdom and to follow your intuition, rather than the advice of others, right now.
Note: Which room the steps go down to and search the corresponding ‘Rooms post.’
A Golden Staircase – represents a spiritual/psychological death on some level of awareness (usually for the better). Perhaps you realise that you no longer need to be trapped in the physical alone, but can move upwards towards a more fulfilling life. Either way – up or down - taking this staircase marks the way out of the mundane.
Statues ~ seen in your dream house or garden, they are a sign that you are making contact with the cold, unresponsive side of human nature. Gypsy folklore holds that to see one, means a period of estrangement from a loved one will follow.
Are you worshipping someone who isn’t responding?
Spiritually this symbol can often foretell a lack of energy will soon cause you disappointment in realising your wishes. Sometimes energy patterns are on different wavelengths, stand back and observe for a while where yours are.
The statue in a certain room of the house can often be about giving value to something – often a relationship – that no longer has significance in our lives.
Is it ‘dead’ and therefore solidified into a statue?
(see ‘Rooms’ for more details).
If a Statue Comes to Life – it means that something that was thought to be over, finished, dead – usually a relationship – can be rescued.
Stone(s) ~ to notice stone, or to see stones of any kind in your dream, suggests durability and stability; but also represents the many perplexities and failures that besiege us when dealing with the imperishability and indestructibility of reality.
You will need to be very clear here about what kind of stone(s) you are dealing with.
Small Stones and Pebbles – imply that little worries and vexations will irritate you.
To Throw a Stone – you will have cause to admonish a person in a direct confrontation, very soon.
A Broken Stone – augurs being badly hurt.
Being Stoned - (in the biblical sense) … being punished for wrongdoing (guilt), you must search your feelings for what you are hiding from yourself.
To Walk Amongst the Rocks (or Stones) – foretells that an uneven and rough pathway will be yours for at least a while (Gypsy folklore).
To Carve Stone – is reflecting your deep desire to create a lasting mark of your passing through the earth plane, through some special achievement.
Being Turned to Stone – Suggests that you have had to - or need to - harden up your attitudes a little, where dealing with reality is concerned.
Were you forced to grow up too quickly and need time to learn to play again?
Old Romany folklore states that if you design to throw a pebble or stone at some belligerent person in your dream, it means that some evil feared will pass, because of your untiring attention to right principles.
Sundial ~ in a dream denotes wasted time (gypsy folklore).
Surroundings (general) ~ note that your general surroundings in the house and grounds will often be played out as reflections of your mood. If you are anxious and miserable then your dreamscape is often drab and dreary. If you are happy, the opposite is often true.
Sweeping ~ suggests that you have the need to put things in order and if you take note of this dream putting things in order in your waking life, it is said that you will gain great favour with your partner and that your children will really enjoy their home (gypsy folklore).
Sweeping is an old image, which relates back in dreamlore to good management through the clearing of the environment. Chimney sweeps are even lucky in dream chimney’s too, although seeing soot is not as it foretells of quarrels.
Sweeping dreams suggest that attention to detail and correctness are of the utmost importance now, as much as cleanliness.
Today it can also mean searching viruses and computer housekeeping is in order too.
To be sweeping in a dream often means that spiritual knowledge should now be reflected on, cleaned up and stored away, properly.
If you Think the Floors Need Sweeping – and neglect to do them (in the dream), it is said that there will be distress and bitter disappointment awaiting you in approaching days (Celtic gypsy folklore).
To See Others Sweeping Your Floors – augurs arguments and suspicion of the intentions of others will dog you, until you learn to sweep your own floors.

Flashes of memories
I love all the Gypsy folklore. My cousin is half gypsy... pity it wasn`t that side of the family that my bloodlines come from
I`ve also dreamed of scaffolding this year - going down a hole into the ground at an archaeological site - it was very old and rickety with rusty boards stretching across and all of a sudden I had this instinctual need to jump off it. Just as I did the whole thing collapsed and sent bodies tumbling into the hole below. Now i know what all those symbols mean it w ill be interesting to go back and see what was happening in reality at that point in time.
I find it interesting that your sense of smell is turned off in dreams. Sometimes I have had dreams of my grandmother and the distinct smell of oranges is around - a smell that I have always associated with her.
Very interesting reading, as always
Ash
PS You know I asked if you knew what 'Rinpoche' meant on that sign by the wash basin? it means 'precious one' in Tibetan and is attached to the end of a name of someone who has been recognised as the reincarnation of a great teacher.

This is fascinating info as always. I can't think of any dreams that include what you have listed, but often when I have a dream, I look at your blog and try and see what they are about.
Brilliant as always, Lilla,
Tracy
PS Hi Ash, sounds like you've had some interesting dreams lately...

Wow, thanks for the info on Rinpoche…way cool.
Yes, now that this body of work is building into a cohesive whole, there is a great trail for any dreamer to follow…even me, as they surpass my messy notes and scraps of paper… yes, it just dawned on me to add the gypsy stuff, and I am glad you’re enjoying it. Which tribe of gypsies is the cousin from, do you know?
Last night, I was flying this helicopter over the most beautiful snowy landscape imaginable.. it was heaven, and there were emeralds in the ground… that was all before I lost my bag and this letter from my Mum …. (ooh lots of unresolved issues there)…and on it went to Monkeys and other less pretty scenes… but I won’t bore you with the gore.
It is really funny that you mention citrus smells, because for the whole of this week I have smelt sweet oranges and lemons in my dreams and as yet, am not fully aware of why?
I will cover fruits in a post on ‘food’ next I think.
Hair is an interesting symbol to look up and enmesh into the interpretation..
Glad you’re enjoying the reading Ash…thanks for the feedback.

That’s an interesting dream you have there…?
Hmm, not much to go on, so I’ll start by breaking it down into individual components, but I can tell straight off that you are undergoing some monumental personal growth through conflict here… at a glance I’d say there is an almost “desperate struggle caused by a clash of wills ..or.. um…beliefs... oh... outmoded family values?
Let’s see…
For a man to dream of his mother, basically depends on your relationship with her in waking life, but even if a pleasant dream – which this is not – it never augurs that you are dealing with simple issues… unless it is a visitation (see [this link] ), in which case it signifies that great joy will be yours soon.
If a difficult relationship in waking life (or in the dream), then you may find that you often form (or need to) dependent relationships with older women, or sometimes deny or question your right to a relationship at all? A bad dream about Mum, can also foretell some sorrow on the way to you (gypsy folklore).
This is confirmed by the nasty little spirit, which denotes some unexpected delay or trouble will confront you, but at a deeper level we are looking at our feelings about death. Pretty scary stuff. A spirit appearing often helps you to come to terms with that very thing.
Did the spirit speak or make sound/music/noise?
Wearing Red & White here is so aptly significant, regarding your passion vs. virtue, sensuality vs. purity. (Click Colour link to explore RED and WHITE (Santa Suit) more).
Are you caught up here a little in an emotional bond, which is making it hard for either side to “let go?”
More to the point; Is someone trying to force their values on you?
During spiritual development, our perceptions widen from the ordinary everyday to other aspects and dimensions of knowledge which have become available to us. Whether they are aspects of ourselves or the etheric realms is immaterial, since ultimately that realm exists with the sole purpose of helping us (the dreamers) progress.
Evil seen or felt in any form, is usually about becoming aware of our own urges, which we most likely have judged wrongly.
Those ‘urges’ were trying to escape here – any escape in dreams represents a desire to find release from particular circumstances in your life – to move beyond, or avoid, difficult feelings. As such, it also represents our own need for spiritual freedom.
Passing through doors is always interesting and you should look up all the different meanings <<here>>
The fact that this door was passing from the interior of the building (your personality), to the outer world, suggests great conflict between your conscious and unconscious in this matter.
Side Note: Seeing your ‘evil urges’ barred from the door is significant too as it means that you are clear on a need for self protection here too.
If the ‘evil part of you’ escaped by a door, it means you would be able to find another solution or opportunity to solve the problem, but because it didn’t ‘fit’ … you won’t be able to find one for a while yet, so relax until it comes along.
You should check out what a Dog stands for here too, as it presented as a distinct symbol of a Doggy Door.
Andy, follow [this link] to a how-to on lucid dreaming and a possible way to ‘get there.’ If you already know of Carlos Castaneda, then you’ll be doubly sure to enjoy this read… like his others, it is a fascinating journey into our own psyche.
Hope that helps Andy, thank you for the lovely compliment and for using these ‘pages.’

Wishing you sweeter dreamz
