Colours In Dreams

November 13th 2006 07:23
Black - This colour holds within it all colours in potential, and talks of dealing with the void of transition and most likely the isolation that goes with it. It's negative traits suggests materialism, pessimism and judgement, which may be causing conflict with family and friends.

The Gypsy's say that black foretells of family squabbles and if related to business, then it will fall short of expectations for a period.

Blue - Like a still lake or clear sky this is the colour of inner peace and contentment. It is the most effective healing colour when appearing in a dream and suggests relaxation, sleep and promise.

In Gypsy folklore it is believed that to dream of blue anything (but especially clothing), denotes that you will carry to victory all your aspirations through hard energetic and insistent efforts. Friends will loyally support you.

Crimson/Burgundy - (particularly as clothing) - is said by Gypsy folklore to be a sign that you will escape formidable enemies through a timely change in your expressed intention.

Beige - is a sign of neutrality, to the point of a lack of communication, making resolution difficult.

Brown - The colour of the earth, death and renewal. It is considered auspicious promising freedom, success, money; and a happy and long-lasting union.

Green - This is the colour of balance and compatibility. It is the colour of nature and suggests a regeneration and eventual happiness and prosperity. You now have the ability to take great pleasure form the simple things in life.

Grey – In dreams any grey tends to point to a period of dedication and service, but also speaks of transitions. If it is a vibrant glowing grey, then it signifies a peaceful transition; if dull and mottled, a fearful one.

Magenta – In dreams this colour connects the spiritual and physical and signifies surrender, altruism, perfection and meditative practices.

Mul-ti-Colou-red - (especially as in clothing) - Swift change is about to affect your waking life, with many good and bad influences. Perhaps a time to stay detached from the emotions of the events until they have subsided, and you have time to reflect on the reason and lessons learnt from such a time.

Orange – A cheerful, uplifting colour which in dreams signifies qualities associated with autonomy and independence; also that passion will be coming to every aspect of your life offering great satisfaction.

Pink - Expect wonderful developments of newfound tenderness and love in your relationships, especially with your partner/opposite sex.

Purple - The colour favoured by royalty because it offers you a time of achieving great aspirations through the ability to see both the tangible and non-tangible realms of our universe. The is a 3-D colour which allows you to transcend the mundane and take full advantage of the muse, tapping in to new creative awareness.

Red – Vitality, strength, dynamism, life, sensuality and power – a perfectly clear red is the colour correct, for these qualities – any other reds in dreams means there is some contamination. Great passion and emotional sensitivity, can now be achieved together in your relationships.

Turquoise – Is the colour of Good Luck! In some religions it represents the colour of the freed soul, however in a dream it is a symbol for rest and simplicity. It simply says, ‘completing projects now will release the luck needed to create new opportunities.’

Violet – Found by some to be too strong, this colour in a dream is said to indicate grandeur, esteem issues, and hope. Its purpose is to uplift.

White – represents innocence, spiritual purity and wisdom and in waking life people feel they can rely on you. The colour containing within it all colours also reveals that you have an abundance of energy.

According to folklore, to see yourself or others dressed in white in your dream foretells eventful changes, always carried with a little sadness.

Yellow – Close to the sun, it indicates confidence and strength of the emotional self, the attributes of a good reasoning mind ... great abilities, but ones that will attract opposition for a time.

Gypsy folklore states that dreams of bright yellow foretell much gaiety and progress socially and in business.

Pale, faded or drab Yellow - can symbolise listlessness and poor judgement. Re think things through if you see this colour in your dreams (especially in clothing).

Yellow seen in a flitting light or spectre - A socially 'dry' time and a slowing of business for a while, time to reassess your intentions and motivations.

Lilla,

Do colours in a dream depart significantly from the effects of colours in say art, clothes, flowers, home decoration etc.

It strikes me they are much the same.

I can't wait now to have another conscious dream that I can remember, I feel deprived.

Hi Katyzzz,

Yes they are much the same... but in dreams they are more 'background.' They tend to add to the meaning of a dream through nuances... whereas in waking consciousness the colour does not define the object, it only enhances it or detracts from it in some way... does that make sense?

AS to the colours themselves... yes very similar in context, I guess because chakra's remain active in the same places throughout both states... something along those lines.

Yes in both daydreams and night-time ones, you should try to remember the colours as they will add meaning...

Happy dreaming...

Lilla,

Yes, that does make sense and you explained it very well, but we are, in some ways, already on the same wavelength.

It may be more difficult for others, if these types of things have not formed part of their thinking.

Well done,

katyzzz

Love this, but it provokes a few questions from me as well.

For those who dream in color, everything in the dream has color. Are we to look at every thing and every color, or just certain objects/colors that stand out or are magified in some way?

I always connected blue to water moreso than the sky, therefore tying it to emotion and how we feel about certain things. I also tend to tie my colors to the principles of Feng Shui and the Chakras, so it also ties to communication or self expression. Can it be that the way the colors are demonstrated is as important as the colors themselves?

And finally, why is it that some people dream in full color and others dream only in black and white?

Hi Wendi,

In answer to your first question, I think yes but not all things... for example if you noticed a Fairy in your dreams the symbology would be pointing to the capricious and spontaneous side of our being... no problems... but lets say that you happened to notice that the fairy was a bright green as opposed to black, you could further interpret on the merits of the colours involved. In this case a green fairy might indicate that a spontaneous need to be amongst nature would be beneficial and not overridden with logic... go with the flow.

A black fairy would indicate that you view (or someone around you - depending on the rest of the symbols) view your spontaneous behaviour as too fickle, and not a good thing... something that should be dampened down to suit a more corporate structure perhaps....?

I'm not sure they are good examples, but hope they help ...

Yes colours are important as stand alone symbols, indeed…

Blue is as you say in the waking world, but again slightly skew in the dream world... yes, personally, I would certainly look at the waking connotations of blue exactly as you suggest... because of the throat chakra and communications... again Wendi, it is like reading Tarot Cards. One on its own can mean very little, but two or three others around it and you have a Encyclopaedia definition to read ... ;o)

Black and white dreams are interesting aren’t they and I don’t know…I have read about ten different theories…nothing conclusive….it remains a mystery to me… probably my cats too because it is said they only see in black and white… and upside down *lol*

I’d welcome any input on black and white dreams… maybe research it a bit more one day… as I say, I’ve found nothing conclusive so far…

Thanks so much for your visit and questions;

I hope my answers help you a little…

Lilla,

I've left my dream on one of my sites. Let me know what you think and I'll put it on here, if you like, it really wasn't all that interesting but I'm sure you'll be interested in what I have said. No rush.

Hi

I was wondering if you had read Aldous Huxley's book Heaven & Hell (sort of a sequel to The Doors Of Perception). He only has a few sentences about dreams but he goes into how the colour of dreams ties us down to reality and is never really a main part of a dream. I was wondering what you though of that?

Interesting, however. I can never remember if I dream in colour or not...

Hi Kylar,

No I haven't read any of his work, it sounds like the sort of book I'd enjoy though... I'll go and do a Amazon check and get the ISBN and preview a few pages... thank you so much for the recommendation...

Actually I like the idea of colours grounding us... it makes perfect sense that something has too and what better than the refraction of light...colours in dreams do hold the ambient importance. If you can try to remember what they are...they can help you achieve a lot in self progress and understanding of your waking emotional responses to certain situations...when added tot he other symbols tthat appear...

happy dreaming

~lily,

I look forwrd to seeing your image, it pears some importance *ha ha*

...a golden anything is good, as is turqouise... and fruit is always a symbol of the fruits of labour and the hidden potentials... golden (prosperity) and turqouise (tranquility) bring promise indeed...

a nice combination,

Lilla...

Orange – A cheerful, uplifting colour which in dreams signifies qualities associated with autonomy and independence; also that passion will be coming to every aspect of your life offering great satisfaction.

PS, funny thing these extra colours... I found a whole stash of notes on colours I had forgotten about...

You have just reminded me that I saw more cockatoos yesterday, and a black and yellow butterfly whilst at the tennis court... going now to catch up on its 'other' meaning ... something about remaining - or becoming more flexible when butterfly's are about I think... jsut off the top of my head... as a fixed astrological sign (the fixed ones being Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio and Taurus)... that advice is always in good measure.

hugs.
