Buildings In Dreams - A-C
July 13th 2007 04:31
The buildings we find ourselves in dreams, represents another HUGE category of dream interpretations.
Buildings represent the constructions we make in our lives, from the beliefs and attitudes we have built from our experience and perceptions. They are laced with all our family habits and customs.
In real life, you can learn a lot by visiting where a person lives, their personal habitat. So it is in dreams, where the building you find yourself in, will also reflect your own character, as well as your current hopes and concerns.
So, in summary, the features of the building, as well as the components of the building, will mirror the areas of your personality that are currently ‘under construction,’ or similarly being ‘renovated.’
Because ‘building dreams’ are so often a composite dream ..(ie finding yourself inside a hotel, school, church - as opposed to a bathroom in a hotel, a bedroom in your mother’s house, or a castle drawbridge - juxtaposed to a random door, window or bath in a stream of non related imagery) .. interpreting them can become confusing.
The Key to understanding this genre of dreams, is to interpret the main building first, as the primary clue and then to its appearance and composite symbols, as secondary qualities we need to recognise.
My ‘collection’ is by no means definitive, but hopefully will provide some use to you, when trying to interpret this type of dream.
Again, as before, if I do not cover something and someone has additional information, please add it to your comment and I will include it here in the main body of this ‘list.’
As always, if you’re still not making sense of it all, let me know and I’ll have a look at it for you.
TYPE OF BUILDING: A - C
Arena (or stadium-type building) ]- as a spectator - you may need to make decision about moving into an environment which gives room for more self expression, creativity or theatricality.
As a player – you are developing a new focus of attention on an area of conflict that needs sorting out. This “building” is saying that the conflict needs to be bought out into the open to be resolved.
An open forum will help move this problem away from the ritualised form of conflict it has become.
Boarding House – this symbol is simply read as you not feeling secure within your current living conditions. What is threatening you?
Brothel – to have such a dream is a symbol of your need for sexual liberation and freedom.
In a Woman’s Dream – you have not yet fully come to terms with the sexually active side of yourself. This dream can surface around times of a new romance. This dream can be pointing to the lower, base, darker side of femininity.
In a Man’s Dream - Freud believed that for a man, this dream showed a fear of your feminine side? Jung ventured that it may also represent awareness of man’s spiritual debt to woman.
Cage – The cage represents a trap or jail. Danger.
Outside the Cage - This is a warning dream that aspects of your personality need to regain control.
To be in a Cage – indicates a strong sense of frustration at being trapped by the past. You are being warned here that you may be employing too much restraint on your hidden abilities, squashing your potentials. You should examine, and reconsider your negative images of religion or belief.
Are you allowing others to hold you back in some way?
Capital City – to dream of being in a country’s capital city, surrounded by tall buildings indicates we need to look at our attitude to the wider issues of that country, or our connections with it.
This dream also indicates involvement with large groups of people, particularly those whose customs and accepted behaviour is largely unknown to the dreamer.
Castle – Castles link the dreamer right back to the feminine principle of enclosed and defended private spaces. In dreams, it often also represents the spectacular and often difficult task of obtaining our objectives.
Being Trapped in a Castle – Before we can fully open to other people, we have to let down our barriers, and if you are trapped in a castle, this is exactly what your dream is telling you.
Are you having difficulty in freeing yourself from old attitudes?
Trying to Enter a Castle – this is a good dream, as it signifies, that you have accurately recognised the obstacles, which have to be overcome for you to reach your objective.
Spiritual Testing: the overcoming of obstacles in order to gain a greater understanding and better standing in society… certainly within yourself.
Catacomb/Crypt – This dream indicates that you need to come to terms with subconscious religious beliefs or training. Answers here, lie deeper within the powerful (often occult) layers of the subconscious mind.
Very often, a dream of being underground, in a catacomb or crypt is reflecting our fears and feelings connected with death.
Cave – (although not technically a building, I thought it fitted this genre as perhaps one of the earliest of dwellings known to mankind) … it’s meaning is very similar to those of the Catacombs above, once inside the cave, but with an entrance and exit, it represents a doorway into the sub-conscious mind, and whilst initially frightening to explore, it can often reveal strong contact with our own inner selves.
Church Buildings – offers a place of sanctuary and refuge - in shared feelings with other people - and although you may not adhere to any particular religion, most of us have principles that we live by. These surface in dreams in recognisable images, like a church, which can represent our need to look at our feelings towards organised religion or the group belief.
A church becomes the centre of all that is holy and spiritual and allows us to link with the life forces within us, enabling us to live more fully. If the dream is a pleasant one, this dream can often presage a 'miracle' and great joy.
To Stand In A Beautiful Golden Light In A Church – is said to mean you are loved, and favoured by God and the Angels.
Circus Tent – This dream symbolises our need to be childlike and ‘on the move.’ It is a warning that life has been too sedate lately and that some fantasy is needed to maintain your equilibrium.
Important and beneficial events will often follow a dream of being at the circus.
Citadel – See Castle.
Club – (Night Club or Sports Club, RSL etc) …this dream is highlighting the right of every human being to belong. Psychologically, we are not able to be a part of a group until we have reached a certainly level of maturity.
This dream reminds us that organised ‘ritual’ is often as important as sacred ritual, and sacred space, and as such, an important part of the progression to spiritual awareness.

Well...I always have dreams about being a player in an arena...but I'm usually awake and in fantasy land!
I like these description/interpretations Lilla. Very much.
I have had a dream about one building and you have covered it here...and thank you...it makes a lot of sense.
I hope you're well. Looking forward to reading more.

I loved the staircase, Lilla, and the strange room and people, but that type of dream is not what I experience, mine, in contrast appear tame.
Your posts always hit me in the eye, now, and you'll know why. PM and I am not referring to the afternoon.

*lol*…um… that would be ‘daydreams’ which is just down the hall and to your left …
Alhtough.. /seriously/ there is not much difference between the two. Some mystics believe that if you originally see the image as "different to accepted Reality"(ie : a purple deer with green horns, and the face of SL)...well then that’s probably how it really is? I’m not going to argue.
I did see a beautiful horse in a paddock once, and I swear I saw a unicorns horn, there was something magical about that horse, no kidding. My shaman friend says it's probably is and I can see through the "veil." I told him I thought it depended on my meds *chuckle*
Dusk, I'm chuffed that you got something out of this post, as it took the devil to create it, as my back is still not ‘back’ at all…but I am looking forward to writing out all the buildings too and then all the individual components like , doors and balcony’s and such… it’s a huge category, but perhaps one of the most popular symbology.
Gotta go and take me meds. and do the Samba weekend now…see where that takes me? *lol*
*rolling my eyes*
…never a dull moment, that’s for sure.
Have a great weekend!

Many dreams ore prophetic but people can miss the cue due to not fully understanding the symbology. For example a dream I had about 100 years ago now of a red car, it came careering across the road, flipped in front of my car and landed on top of my car, squashing it, and killing me.
Lots of information there and even though (at the time) it seemed like a prophesy of a car crash… well now I understanding it was a warning of a particular person I was to meet years later… the red car, crash and death being the symbology of the spiritual aspects and emotions that would be covered in the meeting itself.
It is an interesting study which takes years to understand ourselves full and you are right, so many dreams we just don’t remember…
Recently, on this Zydol medication? I don’t even remember my name for half the day… like now and I'm not being obtuse, but unless you have PM-ed me recently and I haven’t picked it up yet… I’ve missed your joke, I’m sorry, but I’m really zonked.
Sorry to be so dull.

I understand the problem and I often do have a joke which others don't get, even when they're not zonked out.
I hope you accept my explanation. Why did I seek to place it 'in code'? mainly to not draw too much attention to it, over and above what others might perceive from it although you made no secret of it. I didn't want to belabour the point but at the same time wanted you to know how much it attracted me.
The code was easier as you are now witnessing.
Loved your input into the dream world, if only we knew what they meant at the time, I have a similar problem with ESP.
I do hope you're feeling well next time you visit and are confronted by my rather over lengthy explanation, that's why I often opt for the short pithy approach.
Comprenez?
katyzzz....love and sympathy. Full recovery soon, I hope.

*lol* I went off looking for a PM (Personal Message) *slapping forehead*
I understand now and thank you for taking the time out to explain it to me... I hope I recover soon too, although I think it’ll take a while to get over the Zydol, long after my back snaps back!
I have passed on your compliments to my little Tinkerbelle, but she is very modest and still wants to strangle me for making her famous (…ahead of her time?)..
I tempted to ask now if Picasso’s Mum is a real painting or just your affectionate nickname for this piece? (I don’t have time to google this weekend)…
I understand why you like it, being the abstract person you are, and I just wanted to thank you for your well wishes KTZ. I’m off on coach trip now, to do the Samba for this dance display tomorrow and only hope to God my medication holds me up there for the three minutes which is my little part in the team effort…
Hoping your weekend is special, warm and cozy…
Lilla
PS if you like that intro picture you would like the work of Guaidi, his architecture rocks and I love the lines as the meld with nature. He's a spanish artist/architect. (check the spelling on his name though, I can never get it right) *rolling eyes*
