Animals In Dreams : I - L

April 7th 2007 08:48
Insects : General : will appear in your dreams when something is bugging you in the waking world, particularly if you are experiencing feelings of powerlessness.

Psychologically insects represent suppressed feelings that you would rather not have, but now have to deal with anyway, to progress forward in your life.

Overall a dream of insects should be seen as a progressive symbol that you are working towards success. As such it can augur financial gains. Insects can also indicate that a mystery will soon be solved.

Check the individual insect for more details.

Jaguar – Jaguar pounces into your dreams with integrity and impeccability. The great Jaguar spirit, who was Skygod’s totem animal who roamed the dreams of the Maya, looking for dishonourable behaviour, misdeeds and abuses of power to thwart, using great speed and balance to balance the forces of dark and light.

In MesoAmerican culture, it is said that if Jaguar is roaming your dream/reality, its primal presence is either rewarding you for maintaining your integrity in some situation where you could have easily misused your authority, or has come to warn you to stop being this way?

Were you unwilling to pass judgement on another, or that you passed it too quickly?

When Jaguar is around in your dreams or waking world, make sure you are not caught with your tongue wagging in gossip, least he bite it off.

Sacred Jaguar teach me . . .
To wear my power lightly,
To walk with impeccability,
To approach life with compassion,
And to live up to the integrity of …
…my human potential.

-Jamie Sams and David Carson

When Jaguar roams, do not falter in your resolve to be your personal best at all times. Maintain your dignity, devotion and compassion, holding to forthrightness and honesty, no matter what the contrary influences. Now is not the time to feed any self important need to be an “enlightened one.” Remember personal integrity allows for mistakes, embraces forgiveness and humbly makes self-directed correction allowing spirit to triumph endlessly.

Kangaroo – bounds along and you take a true leap forward. But she warns you to take proper rest in the initial stages of new projects and life aims, because she burns much energy when first she begins to hop. Eventually, her rhythm is set and she will bound tirelessly along under a warm sun, get plenty water, rest and fresh air.
Seen bounding along like this in dreams, Kangaroo often also a symbol for motherhood… but she is more, she is a dream icon for strength too.

When she moves through your outback dreamscape, she is telling you it is time to banish obstacles, be they fears which lurk in the dark hidden recesses of your mind or more tangible problems. They may seem insurmountable, but Kangaroo knows that together, after you take that first leap forward, events will take on their own momentum and so you too will be like Kangaroo, who cannot move backwards. You will have to go forwards, your burdens falling behind you.

You can move forward now, safely.

Lamb – The lamb is the innocent side of human nature. It is said that evil cannot withstand such innocence. Dreams of lambs [ not killed] are often followed by a period of prosperity, but not until a sacrifice of pleasure and contentment is made in your waking world.

A lamb will also appear in your dreams to signify a lasting friendship.

Leech – Beware of enemies taking over your interest under sweet smiles. You will experience much disappointment in daily your affairs if leeches attach to your skin, and you are unsuccessful in removing them.

Leopard – As with most of the Big Cats, the Leopard also represents a misuse of power; this time in the form of deviousness, aggression and cruelty. Are you the victim or perpetrator of such misuse?

Either way, you will now need to make persistent efforts to overcome the negative effects of such abuse.

Lice – contain worries and distress. This dream is a warning. Be careful of how you go about starting a new enterprise or project. Plan your moves carefully; lice counsel that you clear your mind before advancing forward. To continue with doubts [and hesitation] is foolish and will lead to disappointment.

Lions – Lions stand for majesty, nobility, strength and courage. In dreams they often represent the ego and the misdirected passions associated with it. Lion counsels that you banish loneliness by reaching out to special friends and neighbours. Working long exhausting hours leaves little time for pleasures of friendship. Lion says to you, that, “Designer clothes make poor companions.” Beware because loneliness is spirit diminishing.

Struggling With a Lion –
there should be successful development, providing you are not overpowered by the lion, nor do you kill it.

A Man-eating Lion – counsels that an aspect of your personality has slipped completely out of alignment with your spiritual nature, putting you at risk. You must realign it immediately.

A Lion Lying With A Lamb – this is a clear indication of a pending union or compatibility of opposites; mutual ground will soon be established. It is a dream of instinct and spirit going hand in hand, towards mutual goals.

Lizard – is the symbolic MesoAmerican dreamer of future events. Lizard IS the shadow side of reality; that place where your dreams are reviewed before you decide to manifest them physically. To Native Americans, Lizard is the medicine of dreamers. Whether dreamers smoke you or dream you, dreamers like lizard can always help you see the shadow because they have already dreamed the future.

The shadows that lizard reveals to you now, may be your fears, your hopes, or the very thing you are resisting. What are you resisting lately that requires Lizard to show you its dimensions in the shadows? Lizard is here to show you your dreams in order for you to realise them; he reminds you that journaling your dreams is important for you, pay attention to them now as you will benefit much from their symbol-wisdom and your own ‘legend.’

Lizard . . . will you dream with me?
Travel across the stars?
Beyond the place of time and space,
There live visions from afar.

- by /Jamie Sams and David Carson.

Llama – sweet tempered, soft and friendly, llama counsels you that it is a time to let courage lead you, to seek support in overcoming a fear of intimacy. Her gentle and beautiful, wide-eyed face belies llama’s ability to withstand unforgiving conditions, but she comes into your dreams to remind you that defensiveness keeps others away, allowing only loneliness and disrespect to draw near.

It is time to seek help in someone who can help you with the psychology of your mind, as no path is impassable to llama, she will be guiding you home. You can now take the rewarding road to rediscover the sweetness of your own soul and be as one with others.

It is time to come ‘home’ to yourself, if llama appears to guide you.

Lobsters – in motion in your dreamscape denote great favours and riches will endow you throughout life, but you must remember that the coffers of abundance are not always, only of monetary value. Look to the levels of abundance above money.

Lynx – stalks you in dreams to help you reveal secrets through keenness of eye. Primarily, she calls you to objectify more in your waking life. But she is also the keeper of the secrets and specific types of clairvoyance governed by the Law of the Lynx People – Native American’s, Gypsy, Sufi, and Egyptian cultures.

Lynx in your dreams is opening the channel of clairvoyance to you and it can become strong in you now. You may start getting mental pictures concerning other people and the exact things they have hidden, either from themselves of from you.

Lynx . . .
You know the secrets
So very well,
The Dreamtime and the magic,
But you’ll never tell.

May I learn to hold my tongue,
Observe like the Sphinx,
Powerful, yet silent,
The medicine of Lynx.

-by Jamie Sams and David Carson.

When Lynx is about in your dreams you can be sure that “secrets” are afloat. You must listen hard now to your higher self … tune into your intuition and pay attention to the revelations you receive either in the form of mental pictures, or through a high singing voice in your inner ear.

Lynx is calling you to “see” beyond the mundane.

So powerful a totem in our human world, that if you see an animal unexpectedly in the waking side of life, you may take it as a sign from the great spirit, as well. Especailly if you see the same animal more than once ...

As always, if you have a dream, daydream or animal visitor that is still confusing, post it below : I am always happy to help you decipher it...

Great Lilla.... love the poetry in between and the pictures... I was writing about animals tonight myself... ele`s and giraffe`s... have enjoyed reading what they mean in dreams... you have inspired me to include some similar writings within my own... just as a general little aside to the story for interests sake... animals in African culture are very important, in the living and waking world... it is amazing that it has taken me to be away from my roots to start looking into them more deeply... all the chances were there (we used to do Dream Interpretations as part of our African Culture studies where I spent the year at the back of the class doing my math homework!! it was a simple pass by attendance class and I never paid much attention to this section then.) .... and I never took advantage! argh school is wasted on the young!!!

have a good week

Serendipitous Ash, or perhaps not at all anymore… we always seem to be on the same, if not similar pages, don’t we?

I couldn’t agree more with you about school being wasted on the young, but it’s not all bad because when you have your children, you get to do it all again, this time with consciousness fully switched on. You also get the added bonus of the insight of your offspring… so enlightening and full of wow factor …what can I tell you except that it is Totally Wild!

*grins and hugs*

Lice, leeches, and roaches.... wow... reminds me of one of my favorite films "Joe's Apartment." Glad to know that la cucharachas in my dreams represent success and not poor house cleaning habits!

Mis …

I haven’t seen ‘Joe’s Apartment,’ but from your comment, it sounds as if he is in need of housekeeping? *chuckle*

I have a glass of water beside my bed each night and the other night, I reached out to drink it and by some weird twist of fate, I half-noticed something floating in it as I raised it to my mouth [all this after I had just awoken from freaky dream]… and there was this huge black Cucharachas floating around in the glass… I almost threw it across the room…*lol*

Sweet dreams indeed!

Hello Nick,

...that would make it interesting for you to read...*chuckle* .. you may read these animals as spiritual totems for daydreams and actual physical sightings too.

Also if you see a picture of a strange creature that you wouldn't normally see in the course of an average day, there may be significance also. ( I noted this penomenon recently on your post about sloths *chuckle*)... I haven't seen one in ages, if ever! Ironically, sloth is a sign for all of us to slow down a bit and consider the smallness of our needs and to treasure what we possess. A very pertinent sign for me this week. Basically whenever you notice an animal : you can use these interpretations... *lol* yeah, I get your point... when don't you see them ... but do you always 'notice' them?

I'm hopeful that my posts can still help you Nick the vet, to unravel a few 'mysteries,' in your life, regardless of your familiarity with them.

Ha! Mis,

'Success my ass,' I now dip my finger before drinking... older and wiser *lol*

I've always associated them with filth, but here in tropical Queensland? No way, they are part of the landscape, like ants and mice; toads and frogs; lice, spiders and snakes. Yep indeedy, they are everywhere alright - all year round - balmy signs of success everywhere..

So you can expect a visit, even in a brand new home!

ps : good to 'see' you laugh.. I like that...

i used to have a boss that we called "the human roach". We knew that when the end of the world came she would still be "glowing" but "crawling"

Hi Mis,

it doesn't make sense... well other than she would be crawling... but glowing?

Please elaborate for the dummies amongst us...*lol*

Lilla ...

Ps am really going to get on with the next part to this now... have been trying all week, [pah!] but my other *non virtual* life just keeps interrupting me... it's like the fourth of July!

So sorry that I did not explain...How rude of me... Very hard to read the "virtual mind"

Roaches are "prehistoric" creatures. The earliest cockroach-like fossils are from the Carboniferous period between 354–295 million years ago.

No matter what happened..it seems like there will be roaches... the same with my former boss, she would land on her feet...after trampling others.... her career would never wane or die

Cockroaches are generally either scavengers or omnivores.

My boss was a scavenger of people.... she would pick her employees to the bone until they would eventually quit....

Some species are in close association with human dwellings and widely found around garbage, dung heaps or in the kitchen.

Can anyone say "dung heap?" She was so piled high in it....

*lol-ol* Mis,

...she sounds like that horror in the Devil Wears Prada... worse, because in that film at least, the boss was 'competent' in what she did *chuckle*

I bet you're glad you're out of there?

Thanks for taking the time to explain it, it made me laugh, as I can remember one or two - just like it... what's worse, the male of this species, or the female?

Hi Tammy,

Thanks for the lovely compliment.

I must say that I am really enjoying this series - putting all my notes together - learning about new animals I haven't dreamt off myself yet.

I love research : made even better by knowing you enjoyed the read.

*lol* Nick,

..and the individual insects themselves reveal more about the areas of concern. Spiders are of particular interest because they relate directly to the mother... I am about to do 'S' in this series and think you'll find the info there on spiders interesting?

Yes, I recommend a good dream dictionary to everyone. Start jotting down the main symbols from your dreams and looking them up. I guarantee you'll soon notice a pattern and set group of symbols ... and more importantly, progress.

Happy Dreaming...

Oh JuliaC,

Thank you so much for that unexpected compliment... really nice of you to say. Thank you.

I am elated that you enjoy my dream series, they are so much fun for me, satisfying too, as I try to piece together years of my own dream notes and those of others in authority on this subject.

I hope that leaves us all with a comprehensive, workable reference guide.

Again, thank you for your lovely kind words of encouragement, they mean much to me.
