Dream Herald - by Lilla

In his work entitled *Sacred clowns* Tony Hillerman writes ~ *.... This business of hozho. The way I understand it ... I’ll use an example. Terrible drought, crops dead, sheep dying. Spring dried out. No water. The Hopi, or the Christian, maybe the Moslem, they pray for rain. The Navajo has the proper ceremony done to restore himself to harmony with the drought. You see what I mean. The system is designed to recognize what’s beyond human power to change, and then to change the human’s attitude to be content with the inevitable.* : The truth is, Dreams Help Us Adjust in exactly the same way . . .

Animals In Dreams: Generic, A - B

March 21st 2007 23:49

Before offering you another complete A-Z of the animal kingdom to use in deciphering your dreams, I need to cover some generic bases. For example, not all animals that appear in our dreams appear as a single occurrence, or in a normal fashion… that would be the other post on the environment… this one is for things a little ‘less real,’ in the real world, but ‘more real’ in the dream world?

Dreaming is an odd paradox, which takes up one half of our lives …it is where we deal with the shadow, that side of ourselves we sometimes cannot face in the waking world… and the 'shadow' it is most likely to do so, morphed into an animal, in your dream?

When it does, it represents our own psychological urges, which cannot be properly understood spiritually in the real world, but need to be assessed on the instinctive level of the inner 'beast,' during our dreaming. This happens as a part of our well being (release valve) and development (psychological integration).

So powerful a totem in our human world, that if you see an animal unexpectedly in the waking side of life, you may take it as a sign from the great spirit, as well. Especailly if you see the same animal more than once...

As always, if you have a dream, daydream or animal visitor that is still confusing, post it below : I am always happy to help you decipher it...

GENERIC APPEARANCES FROM THE ANIMAL KINGDOMS

Animal with Cub – always represents motherly qaulities and therefore the mother. This dream often points to the fact that your relationship with your own mother is being highlighted for consideration.

Baby Animals – You are dealing with the child-like side of your personality, or you need to look at your relationship to children that are known to you.

Composite Animals – indicates some confusion in sorting out what qualities are needed. The various qualities of each animal present in the ‘composite creation’ need to be assimilated and integrated. There are more than one potential for development here.

Cold Bloded Animals (or reptiles) - The unfeeling, inhuman aspect of our instincts will most likely surface amongst this category of animal. Usually a sign of our own destructive, 'alien' behaviour in some matter.

Eating an Animal – This is a dream about your demons, the ones you create for yourself, but which can easily be overcome by assimilating them in a constructive way. Pagan belief was that you took on the superior qualities of the animal you ate, giving you the edge over ordinary human attitudes.

Godlike, talking Awe-Inspiring or Wise Animals (or those with Human Characteristics) – Animals have not yet become conscious of, or pitted themselves against, the power from which they came so the wisdom they show is innocent and simple. It is always important to pay attention to this aspect of animal life in faeries tales and dreams, since we need to be in touch with that part of ourselves.

Half Animal – Half Man/Woman – The dreamers basic instincts are beginning to be recognised and humanised.

Helpful Animals – tell us that our subconscious is producing helpful images from its depths. The various figures of animals are an easy way for you to accept that help and also a clue as to which area the help is being offered.

Killing the Animal – may well be destroying the energy derived from the instincts particular to that animal.

Taming (or Harnessing the Animal) – is showing you that efforts made to control your instincts into more productive and useful channels will reap rewards.

Trying to Find Refuge from Animals – either by building defences, or running away and hiding, is indicative of your own struggle with your own animal instincts. Is the action you are taking to avoid the animal adequate?

Wounded Young Animal – You may be perceive difficulties in becoming mature or ‘facing life,’ look to the type of animal for clues as to which aspect this lies in.

~<>~

Alligator – Always signifies a primordial fear and cautions you to stop making unfounded speculations.

Ants – appear to let you know that your business acumen is good and things should proceed with great prosperity. But you must remember to co-operate if you want to achieve this success.

Ape – who’s deceiving who? Opposition in love.

Ass – Surrounded by loyal friends, you may be reminding yourself to keep it simple and that quite often, travel can deflect complacency.

Badger - When Badger appears in your dreams, you need to know that you may well need to abandon compromise and just fight valiantly for what you believe in. Badger is most certainly a sign of your need to be bold with great courage. Badger points to you becoming more open and agressive about what you want, and not worrying about the good opinion of others. Is there a situation around you that has had you feeling trapped lately, because you didn't want to speak up?

Bat – Steeped in the mystery of MesoAmerican tribal ritual and Vampirish evil, lies the legend of the bat. In dreams it is a symbol for birth, death, and rebirth. You are reminded that nothing is constant in the journey of the soul.

Sacred Bat . . . flew to me,
From the darkness of the cave.
Womb-like reflection,
Answers it gave.

Birth, death, rebirth,
Cycles of the whole . . .
Never-ending,
Just eclipsed,
The Journey of the soul.

- Jamie Sands and Jamie Carsons

When the bat appears in your dreams, it often means you now have the power to transcend failure and move back into a limitless future.

Bear – Mother can appear in dreams in many forms, the bear is one of them. Is it a possessive, devouring mother, or a gentle caring one. Is the action you are taking in the dream adequate?

Bear – Male Bear – in dreams - only - symbolises an overpowering person or sometimes, the Father figure of authority.

Either way, the strength of the Bear is in the power of introspection. The bear seeks honey and the sweetness of truth, within the hollow of the old tree. In Winter, when te Ice Queen reigns and the face of death is upon the earth, Bear enters the womb-cave to hibernate, todigest the year's experiences. It is time for great healing through introspection when Bear lumbers through your dream mountain.

Bear . . .
Invite me
Into the cave
Where silence surrounds

The answers you gave.

- Jamie Sands and Jamie Carsons

Beaver - comes into your dreams to tell you to be ware of large projects sapping all your energy and vigor, leaving you vulnerable. Try to focus on your home life more. Investing in home comforts now provides security and family togetherness. Time to turn longing into reality and transform love into a way of life.

Bees – Is your social life up to scratch or too buzzzy? Bees can often be a prophetic symbol in dreams for a pay rise or increase in both social activity and/or earnings. Hard work is rewarded with responsibility and a sweetness that is best shared.

Birds – (I will have to dedicate an entire A-Z for birds as they are too numerous and important to list here)… suffice to say that dreams of birds are pointing you to look towards freedom, imagination, thoughts and ideas which, by nature, need freedom to be able to become evident and productive.

Buffalo – Prayer and abundance. How are your prayers of thanksgiving lately? Buffalo is also a sign that your prayers have been heard.

Bull – Often seen as a negative symbol of the destructive side of our nature… fear, anger, (bull in a china shop), jealousy, laziness, gluttony, sloth, avarice, on the positive side, the bull can mean sexual passion or creative power.

Bull – slaying of – indicates an initiation into the world of an adult, who has succeeded in mastering his instincts.

Butterflies - Represent a period of great prosperity and beauty ahead. Through kindness and tenderness you will attain your goals. Sometimes butterflies appear in our dreams, simply to advise us that we need to meditate upon, and cultivate, grace. Perhaps some time out amongst beautiful things : like a visit to the art gallery? It is time to delight in life and embrace change as the source of your creation. Note the colours of the buttefly as they will be very important as to further information.

I paid particular attention to the bull since one of the recent dreams I'd posted had me grabbing the bull by the horns. I'm looking forward to the next bit which should include cats.

Thanks, Lilla

Hi Wendi,

Yes, it is interesting . . . it does suggest that you are grabbing all those negative forces and harnessing them... "getting it together" so to speak. Also, perhaps grabbing the bull by the horns, of what you do want sexually and creatively, for the next part of your life?

I have the cutest picture for the cats... well how can I say that? Every picture of a cat is cute (to me anyway)... however, this is pretty good... maybe I'll do a post on it.. post your cutest animal picture here...*lol*

Will post again soon...
...watch that chair...

Norm,
..they say that if the dog is running, he is chasing cats or rabbits, birds or "dinner'… it sounds accurate?

As to dogs dreaming of humans?

I don’t know, maybe it’s prophetic of a future life … or a future meal, perhaps?

*L-ing ol, loudly* at that comment… I enjoyed creating it, although I'm not sure what you're implying?

Hi Lilla,

Just a question...if you have an animal that keeps turning up in your waking world (as in not a pet) would it carry the same meaning as it does here in your dreams?

Thanks

Hi Ash and Wendi,

Indeed it does. As part of ancient augury practices (divinitation through birds and small mammals), as well as shammanic vision questing; the animals you see are meant for you and not there by chance. They bring you a message.

I have studied both forms of auspicies and if you want to tell me the animal you keep seeing, I will be happy to offer insights as to the message the Great Spirit is sending you.

Look forward to hearing...

Hi Lilla,
A grey Heron has taken to visiting the backyard regularly. Normally he is there around dusk time although a couple of times has popped in in the late morning. He used to only stay at the bottom of the garden but is now coming close up to the lounge doors.

Wow : Ash, that sure blew me away...

A few weeks back what appears to be this same bird *chuckle* came and ate most of my goldfish from the pond...

/Seriously/ A herron is a sign that you need nuturing.

It is the symbol of nuturing whenever it appears, especially if you are having troubles with your Mother (and/or partner)?

Grey would suggest a need to find a middle ground, somehow?

Hope that helps, Ash?

*hugs from me*

Ooooops! Sorry Lilla that`s awful I will be sure to mention it next time he is around...how very unsociable of him!

Are you serious? I cannot believe that so many answers lie around us and we just neglect to listen to them....if I had known this years before I would have paid more attention to things from a much younger age.

Once again many thanks ...yes it was helpful, eerily so!

have a great day
